Just read on Yahoo Sports where Dan Wheldon Indy Car driver was killed in a 15 car wreck in Las Vegas today. Tried to search on here and saw nothing.

    Sad news.

    God's speed Dan.

Was watching and the wreck was one of the worst I have ever witnessed. They canceled the event and did a 5 lap 3 a Brest tribute and there were only 19 cars that survived. Prayers go out to all the family and race fans.

Deepest sympathies and condolences to his family teammates, and the entire IndyCar Series community for their tragic loss today. Like others have said he was a good one...and will be missed!!

Dan Wheldon was one of the most successful drivers in British motorsport.
Although the 33-year-old did not share the same high profile amongst the general public as the likes of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, Wheldon was just as successful.
He was the 2005 Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar Series champion, and winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 2005 and 2011.
The Englishman was also the Indianapolis 500 runner-up in 2009 and 2010.
Wheldon, who was born in the Olney area of Buckinghamshire but moved to Florida, is survived by his wife Susie and young sons Sebastian and Oliver.
Wheldon had moved to the United States in 1999 after progressing through British Formula Vauxhall and British Formula Ford. He impressed in the US F2000 series then, in 2002, was called up to the IRL's Panther Racing squad as a test driver but switched to Andretti Green Racing.
He sealed Rookie of the Year honours in 2003 and then recorded three wins the following year as he finished second in the series championship standings.
Things got even better for Wheldon in 2005 when he claimed a series-record six victories, becoming the first driver since the start of the IRL in 1996 to win the Indy 500 and the series championship in the same year.
Wheldon then announced that he was leaving Andretti-Green and moving over to Ganassi Racing for 2006. He posted nine top-five finishes to tie Sam Hornish Jr. on championship points, but lost the tie-breaker as Hornish had more wins.
He also shone in most of the 2006 Indy 500, but a late-race flat tyre was costly. At the end of that year, he declined an offer to join the BMW-Sauber F1 team.
In both 2007 and 2008, he finished fourth then returned to Panther Racing. He switched to Bryan Herta Autosport earlier this year before the tragic accident that cost him his life.

Truely a tragedy I don't follow Indy racing but I have alot of respect for all forms of racing...We tend to forget that while these guys are doing what they love that doesn't mean they aren't risking their life every time they get in the car!

I read he was only 33 years old! A shame! Rest in peace!

Race cars (any kind) are so much safer than a decade ago but the drivers truly never know if they will be here tomorrow. My condolences to the family and friends.

So sad. Deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. Watched for a couple hours hoping for the best. My brother works on one of the pit crews and was there. The big guy upstairs has assembled quite a race team.

  16. Being around indy cars growing up, this is gut wrenching. The feeling that came over me as the car slid down the banking was that of a sureal calming. I knew then that we had lost a great race car driver. Not finding out for a few min whom it was, i just stood in awe of the crash.

God speed My friend, you will not be forgoten..

Rest in peace Dan. My thoughts and hopes are with his team, family and friends. It is sometimes a very unforgiving sport. The highs are brought into reality by the lows.

    RIP.
