Here's mine from awhile back. It was chopped 6", had a Buick Grand Nat'l turbo V6 drivetrain, 59 Plymouth taillights mounted vertically. Monte Carlo instrument cluster. caught fire in 2008 & got totaled. real eye catcher. best compliment was when 10-12 Hells Angels in their colors all gave me a thumbs up as they sped by.

My 60 was also a cigarette truck and was white from the factory. Came with a bench seat, both sun visors,235 6 cyl.,3 speed and had the wide trim around the windshield. Bought it in 1971,paint and body work done in 1973 and have been driving and updating it ever since.

If I'm not mistaken, that was a SD conversion offered by Studebaker as a factory option. I'm pretty sure it was a matter of economics, rather than serving some consumer need for flexibility. The owner of that' 57 was likely displaying it with one side uncovered to highlight the novelty.

Studebaker continued to offer this option on Larks.

Sorry if somebody already answered this puzzle!

I traded a '55 Mercedes 220 sedan (needed an engine rebuild I couldn't afford at the time) for a '56 ford courier that ran well. That was in 1968. A cool car to be sure and I drove it for a few years. Nowadays I wouldn't drive one due to rear and side view limitations and a litigious society. Ain't worth it to be that cool.
