You've gotta have a fairgrounds in the Phx area? Thats where you start. Find out the cost and what Saturdays they have available. Someone/club will have to come up with the seed money to get started and put all the deposits down. Have a swap and food vendors. Charging them helps pay for the fairgrounds costs. Don't forget you'll need portapots, insurance, NICE postcard type "flyers", etc. It won't be easy but if it was everyone would be doing it.

I would be all over that anbd agree that we need something here. I dont go to the pavillions due to the fact it is like walking around a new car dealership.
There is a show every saturday at 4-??? at 83rd ave and union hills but that is a long ways for people from the south. If we could get something together in central Phoenix that would be handy for everybody.

It appears we have plenty of people interested. So, what shall we do about it ?

Location, location, location .. thats the key.. promoting it to the right people so that you get a good variety of cars outside of the normal community. example: old school grey beard bikers.. they all have hot rods.. I have had The Steel Horse saloon ask us a few times to throw something there... Hit me up Kerry since you are president on this deal and I have ideas and hook ups I can help donate time or whatever you need...

We never charge at our shows and never will.. Some of our club dues go to having our local show wich is pretty much just a reason to throw one hell of a party and our show in prescott...

We like to host those who are doing what they can to keep their hot rod on the road.. the every day working cl*** hot rodder..they can save their money for gas and oil to make it to our shows....get in touch with PBR rep they are always down to helpout... They are awesome!..

Kurtis, we'll have to hook up. If the Steel Horse is asking, why not take them up on it? They would make the $$$ in alcohol sales I am sure. Not sure I would know how to set up an entire event but if the Sinners and some others interested wanted to get involved I would certainly do my share to help out. I went to a smaller event at the Lucky Devil last summer, they had bands etc....and were turning cars away because the lot was too small. Great little show that showed me that there is interest in this kind of event. BTW, where is the Steel Horse ?

I would be down to help. Even if that is just standing out front telling people where to park or picking up after the show. Keep me posted.

I'll be honest, I am so completely tired and bored of car shows. I always get stuck driving a van full of sound gear and drums and ****...
I think it would be way more fun to do a "run" to someplace. Its gonna be hotter then Hell here in a few more weeks so why not a cruise up to Flag, Rim Country, or the White Mountains? Just something to get out and drive! A good ol' fashinoned Butcher Jones takeover could be cool and The Salt River float down is still a fun tradition with my friends...
There's a million idea's. I'm more a fan of the "if you build it" school... The problem with a big event like Tres Dias is the money and energy it takes to make it a success. We already have more guys involved here then on the PHX group thread so lets all pitch some idea's around and make this happen!
I also just started a Wednesday nights open mic/local music showcase in Glendale and you guys are more then welcome to come hang out over there too.

Sounds too me like we need to find a bar (Steel Horse) or whatever that is willing to host to get us rolling. Book a couple bands, promote it for Hot Rods, let the clubs come and have prime spots but PLENTY of room for others, keep it to the traditionals or whatever so we don't get the Pavillions crowd, get PBR to hook us up and we have a show !

Kurtis, Last year or fall of 2008 there was a bar by a tattoo parlor in Tempe that held an event. I believe it was Lady Luck Tattoo (can't remember the name of the bar), and that is where I first met Jerry and a couple other of the Sinners. I had heard that it was going to be a car show but other than a few of the Sinners, my car and a couple others, that was it. Don't think it was too well promoted. But they had some bands and the regular turnout was pretty good. Just not enough cars. But a bar w/a tattoo shop next to it might not be a bad idea......

I like the cruise idea but I also like to hang around, meet people, listen to some music and check out some cars. I think you would get more people involved with the show if we could keep it a tradtional show in one spot. I am up for a cruise another time though (such as the Sinners Prescott Run).

Not trying to invest the $$$ that Tres Dias did. I certainly could not afford it but if a bar sponsored a show, I could certainly kick in for flyers, promotion and organization and help anyway I could.

I am sick of car shows like the Pavillions and other cruise night events as well. But to hang with the traditional crowd is another thing......We are all on the same page. Or at least in the same book anyway.

Kerry you have alot of work ahead of you let us know how it turns out. haha.

Steel Horse is 19th and Bell.. We have not taken them up on the offer cause it is a compe***ion with The Blooze bar rockabilly thursdays and we are not going to put our car club name on something that bars are out to just make some extra cash. People then loose sight about it being about the cars and the Great people in the community... Let me know if you are seriously going to throw something together and I am more than willing to help you out..

A Tortilla flats run and have a poker run say 10 bcks a car and put 5 into the pot for someone to win best hand and the rest to pay for a band or 5.haha.. We do that with the car club now. a poker run but we do 20 per car and do a tour around town and at the end winner gets the pot..

Tortilla flats is a nice ride and on the way back we stop in Goldfield for lunch and bands.. gives you that southwest cowboy/mining vibe... people can meet there and take the train ride and hear about the stories of supers***ion mountains.. good show and good ride just outside of town.. Gilbert has San Tan flats for just a gathering and bands too..

Oh man, like I said, I would have no idea how to arrange a whole event but if a few of us get together I am sure we can pull it off. Seems to be enough of us interested. Hell, a bowling alley may even be a place to think about. They have a bar if people want to drink, usually food, people could bring their family, take over the parking lot for the cars and a band could play in the bar inside. What is the name of the bowling alley on Kyrene & Chandler, they have a big empty lot now that the Bashas is closed, I know they have good food and the Heart Attack Grille & the Regal Begal is right there for addtional food & beverages as well. Could be a good location for Saturday night show.

I gotta run to Prescott on Saturday morning and then a B-Day party Saturday night so this weekend is bad for me. Maybe we could pick a spot in the middle for next weekend or something and we all could get together and kick a few ideas around.

I understand what you are saying. But if you can get a bar or bowling alley to sponser, that would cover the costs and be able to keep the show free as the bar makes the money off the patrons. I am really thinking that the bowling alley on Kyrene and Chandler is something to look at. Like I said, the Bashas closed so the parking lot is huge and empty and if you could get the Regal Begal and Bowling alley to Sponser/Host, it is a win/win. It is place for the show, large parking area for cars, and two places people can go to and hang out. I myself like the bowling alley idea because people could bring the family if they wish. Would they go for it ? Who knows......

Realistically somewhere near downtown Tempe or old town Scottsdale maybe even old town Gilbert would be the more ideal place to pull something like this off. Location is everything, getting local businesses involved wouldn't hurt either.

The problem with a remote location in Chandler or some random parking lot is the lack of entertainment and nightlife.

When to put it on is another huge logistic nightmare. I talked with DeEtte Crow years ago about this very problem. Every time she tried getting something scheduled, a competing show popped up as the anti-what ever she did. So you need to study when other events are going on and maybe try and consolidate similar events into one.

Paging Mr. Jeem, Mr. Jeem please pick up the white courtesy phone.

It seems like once a year the idea of a "traditional" show in Phoenix pops up on the hamb. Trying to find the right mix of ingredients to pull off a successful show here looks to be a difficult task. I agree that it would be wise to start small and see where it goes from there. No parking lot shows (there's enough of them).
The downtown Prescott show was a great one. Maybe it would be easiest to pick up where the AZSRA left off but with stricter registration requirements? It could be easier to promote since people are familiar with the venue and locale. Lots of hot rodders from all around have moved to the Prescott area in the last year.

Looking for a bar, try the blooze on 32nd and cactus, Tumbleweed owns the place and they have live music thursday nights with rods, customs, and motorcycles in the parking lot. For sponsors try Ron (RamJet) at RamJets speed shop he shows cars and custom bikes up there all of the time.
