By now i'm sure you guys have taken a look at the pics from Billetproof. I've got to say that nice green gr*** looks a whole lot sweeter then the fairgrounds...

Hate to disagree Nick, But all I see with gr*** is tons of Claritin, and about six hits from my asthma inhaler! I would have to vote no on gr*** for the most part.

I am sure fairgrounds would be just as expensive as westworld?

Choptop, are you talking about Tempe Beach park?

If so, that's not a bad idea! Central location (kinda-sorta), large gr*** & paved areas, close to the water, Mill Ave bridge in the background... not a bad idea at all...

Dont really know if it would work or not... LOTS of factors go into choosing a location for a show.

all I know is that I had a connecting flight through Phoenix on Monday and saw this from the air.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q...68,-111.941478&spn=0.006966,0.009195&t=h&z=17

    Tempe Beach Park

several immediate issues that come to mind... no spectator parking, no spectator access control, availability of a public facility for a private event...

but its an idea and worth at least a driveby while I'm there to check it out.

so is WestWorld and several other parks in the area.

golf courses are also worth a look.

There was a show a while back at the drive in around glendale not sure how it went... I do think a park would be good so there are some trees but I still think westworld is perfect.. especially if we do it in say novemberish? just before winter hits new mexico, utah and colorado we will still have the southwest 4 corner show...

I have been talking with a few other car clubs in the past about throwing something in the southwest to get the 4 corner states to plan a show...

  15. A couple things come to mind as I think about a traditional show in the area. I went to a show at the Manzanita Dirt track. Cool location but the track was ungraded and had some ruts. they had cool cars and cool music relaxed atmoshere...it was fun. I am sure they closed the track down though.

I also attended the Horse Smokeout in Cottonwood. It seemed like a cool spot, lots of parking, lots of dirt..again. I think that venue was the town park. There are Hotels up there also.

Maybe we could get Phoenix or another city or town to let us take over a park for a day. Encanto has had some cool lowrider bicycle shows. Encanto has a lot of trees and gr***.

I also was thinking maybe a small outlying town. maybe Globe/Miami closing a street down for us. I recently went on the Mesa Fire Fighters poker run and when we got to the first stop (in Globe) they had blocked the entire downtown street off for just the riders.

Park central has a big parking lot and gets pretty full when they do the cruising central night. South Mountain park, Squaw peak park. There is a really cool park in Gilbert called freestone park...lots of gr***, some trees, nice nice park, although the town may not like having a bunch of hot rods lurking around...I am not sure. I wish we could close down Gilbert road from Guadalupe to Warner and have cars all line the street.

I think everyone has a lot of good ideas. These are just my two cents

Actually there are some large parking garages right there. I think the location of it is great. Just wonder how pricey it would be. Also, if you were going to have vendors or a swap, is there enough room ?

dunno if there would be room, thats why at least a drive by is in order. Lots to consider when you are looking for a show location.

Keep us posted on any fall/winter shows we'll come by. Been a minute since I've been back to see family.

A local minitruck club actually has actually hosted a few shows there, they might still but it's off my radar these days. I remember there being enough spectator parking on Rio Salado, but you had to walk a couple blocks to get to the show. The show was held on the gr*** on the southeast corner of the park, near Mill and Rio Salado.

I was on the bill as the DJ for the Drive in show. It was a "Wolfie" show and went pretty well. I have some pics, i'll track 'em down and post 'em later. I thought it was super cool... the theater let us pick the movies, and even let me hang out in the projection room. It could make a cool side event but its still a dirt lot in an industrial area, I'm not sure that's what we're after.

Manzanita was another "az.net" party and was crazy. The track was in TERRIBLE condition. That said, it kept everyone (except one or two guys) from making p***es on the back stetch and kept dust to a minimum. Out of all the shows I did with those guys, The Ol' Skool Fest was my favorite. Just like Choppa says above... It was fun.

The common ground that these show's share beyond azrockabilly, is the support of all the other people involved. Local business, Car Clubs, and the 13 Bands to name only a few. Manzanita was planned months in advance. We hustled our ***es across Maricopa County putting up posters, getting sponsors and vendors lined up, and must have hit a hundred concerts, car shows, and parking lots p***ing out flyers buy the thousand.
All of this preperation and hard work will make for a good show. We have the man power fella's, we just need to nail this ****er down and get to work.

For all of that and cars... I don't think there will be enough room. I was just down there at lunch. Its easy to get cars in and out and wouldn't be to hard to fence it off. Hell they do it for New years and any shows down there. Im just don't think there would be enough room.

Bob, Remember it is a first year show, so there may not be as many cars as we would like. I think it is a great central location around a LOT of other attractions (Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Tons of stuff in Tempe,) and it is close to the airport as well. I think it should be considered for sure.

Hear ye, Hear ye! We have a meeting time! June 12 at 1:00 pm in meeting room "B" of the Burton Barr library. Same place as last time "stall number three". Hope that works for every body. If not, let me know and I can still change times around for the next couple of days.

Ya Tempe would be a good thing. Lots of gr*** and concrete to get away from the green. They do have some large events there as well ,throughout the year. I'm pretty sure they have drive down access to the waterfront and gr***ed areas as well. They must, because I know I saw a boat launch ramp down there a couple of months ago.

Here's some shots from the Drive in. This is the place at 55th ave and Bethany. It was pretty cool but there weren't too many "cars"...

Ya, thats kind of a trip, a city as big as Phoenix not having a traditional show. There's a good number of rods out there that would definately fit the bill. Good luck with gettin a show going.

  29. The thing about Tempe Beach park is that it's located right on the Light Rail line- and there's a ton of parking nearby, just have to figure out the logistics. I'v been to a couple shows at the Marquee (directly across the lake), and they use the parking structure for the First Solar building next door pretty successfully. I'm guessing there are also other lots along the line as you move NW into Phoenix, and also alot of parking structures along Mill Ave. Like has been said- they have some pretty big gatherings there every year, so it has to be doable.

Within walking distance there is just about something for everyone- brewpub, hooters, Irish pub, hip-hop sleazebar, restaurants, etc. If nothing else, you can just lookie at the ASU girls. Overall sounds like a good time.

Downtown Mesa on main st shuts the road down every second friday of each month. the motorcycle one has been a big success. We need to take over the streets on the rod nights and bring your bbq. 1 mile of closed road and the city lets you police yourself. Every time i go to the motorcycle night of the time there has been bands and beer gardens. They just needs more cars on car night.
