I posted this over on our board, and a buddy said I should post it over here too. So......

As some you know, our house was robbed. Twice. Thursday the 15th between 9am and 12pm and this past Tuesday 20th between 1130 and 1215. Which means they were watching the house. And we and the cops think they've been in the house three times total. Two of the times Megan was there. Once sleeping on the couch, and last Thursday when she just stopped in to get something and then right back out. We think they were upstairs hiding when she came home that time. She's safe. Being robbed on Thursday, we had by the weekend, come to grips with it. But the added robbery on Tuesday just made everything we'd come to grips with disappear.

The cops were totally cool. The one that came the first time is a Marine, and the other guy is a canter at one of the churches that Mags works at. So they were right on with us.

Not sure why I'm posting it. They got a ton of our stuff, totally ruined our front door, and invaded our lives. I'm mad as hell and nervous about even being at work lately as a result. We've got a new door, and I'm working with the contractor to armor the latch. We're replacing all of the doors on the house.

To pour salt in the wound, they stole my combat rig and my patrol cap from when I was in the service. I had that hat on every mission I ever went on, and it was sort of like the lucky garter that a pitcher wears every game. ****ing assholes.

Fuckers. There is nothing worse then not feeling safe or at ease in your own home. I got robbed a few times as a kid, once my mom was fighting with the dude over our CD player while I was sleeping. Fucks you up for sure.

I hate to say it dude, but that area sounds sketchy and I would think about moving to a safer area. Guns and dogs help but even they are not your best option. One things is for sure, it's going to be difficult to feel at home in that place.

That's creepy- Just the thought of someone watching my house and robbing me- while I'm in the house- freaks me out. Its weird that they wanted personal items like that though... what for?

I mean if they were in once and seen that you were in the military and came back then having a gun in the house is probably not going to do anything unless you are there to use it. Now that might be where a well trained German Shepard or Rotty come into play. They can hear anything you can't and will alert you if somethings up.

  5. My sympathies to you. I don't have any answers or advice, just hope you are safe.

Middle of the day robberies are not very common, but are becoming more so in the current economy. It would seem someone would have seen something fishy or out of the ordinary. I am very sorry for your loss bro, and i hope they catch them and break off a phone pole in their asses........

My neighbors accross the street got broken into a month or so ago. One of the things the cop said was that if you didn't have or want a dog, by a new dog dish for your friend with the biggest dog-in exchange for their old one. Put it in your back yard with some chew toys, and hopefully that will dissuade them.

Man that really sucks. I can feel for you. We were burglarized a couple of years ago. They took about $30k worth of stuff. We lived in an increasingly bad urban subdivision neighborhood and never really got over it. We sold our house and relocated to a rural area on 5 acres where we feel safer.

  20. Wow. Sorry tor here about this. Last I remember glen ellyn was a nice quiet place! This kind of deal sounds like either some one who lives real close to you' or worse yet knows you or Megan. At least you guys are ok.

  21. chances are good that you know them.

  22. Wow, no real good answers or advice. When my wife and I decided to get married and start a family, the first thing we decided was to get the hell out of Seattle. I was too tired of my stuff being ripped off or destroyed by punks.

I hope they catch them... I hope it not a friend that you both know ???

You might want to add an alarm too

  25. Maybe installing a Security camera! also looks like someone who knows you well did this! Its hard but maybe even friends or neighbors could have done this its hard to imagine but the truth is these people knew your work hours and even your precious items. I hope you find them.

Earlier this summer I went out into my unattached garage one day and realized some things had been stolen. It was nothing like someone had been into my house- especially when I was home but it was still very unsettling. That kind of violation takes a while to get over. I hope they catch them and they are punished for their crime.
Glad to hear you and the family are ok.

    Jay

  27. Hey man sorry to hear it.
-A friend once told me after his house was robbed that he felt raped-
I never understood exactly what he meant till this past July when my house got cleaned out.
I felt like a stranger in my own house knowing someone had been in there while I wasn't. Totally violated.
Time has healed it some, but everyday I still look @ realty websites for somewhere else. But maybe I take stuff too hard.
Insurance sure works well when you pay THEM every month, but when it came time to get paid back for my stuff.......what a nightmare
Keep your head up man, One day payback will come.

Had it happen to my family around 17 years ago, good thing was that the neighbor was home and called the police...showed up in 8 min and caught all four bastards, one just out of prison...got to testify at their trial...turns out they just wanted drug money...now they are probably out on the streets again, casing my house again..

my sympathies are with you, hope they catch them!

just a note; make sure all your doors open out.this makes it very hard to kick them in.also a motion detector to a very loud outside alarm.
