Does anyone have any pics of a Model A coupe with a wedge chopped top (more in front, less in back)? Just wondering what this would look like...

Here is a quick photochop... I rotated the top 2 degrees... I love this car as is, but it was the only one I had at work that was a good side shot.

It would look like a '70's "cartoon car" or an '80's "street rod". :(

If ya can't tell already, I think I wouldn't want to look at it.

I think it would depend on how it was done. I'm thinking a coupe with a 4 inches in back and 5 in the front might look pretty cool if it was done right. Add to it 5-inches of channeling and no fenders. I actually kind of like the look of the one with the fenders. Sort of 80's/90's looking car, but still has a cool look to it. I need to get photoshop!

  5. i like the photochop, something subtle. i would agree that if the rake was to severe it would look very comical (like the munsters coach)

This car is chopped 3 in the back and 3 1/2 in the front. It's not really noticable.

I would like to see a direct side shot of that. It is REALLY hard to tell it's wedged.

I agree if you got carried away you would be driving a cartoon car.

I've seen quite a few wedge chopped cars in old magazines. These are pictures from the 50's. Usually done to sedans but I've seen coupes too.

You're in MO. and I've driven across it, so "Show me" :D
I'm sure there are. After all they printed a lot of "stuff" back in the formative years of hotrodding just because it was different and unusual.
I've got a magazine that's got a "hotrod" with a single huge '58(?) Ford tail light stuck in the middle of a home-grown boat tail.
Yea, we should all copy that too!

Maybe I'm just crazy, (well the shrink at the hospital was sure of it but that's off topic,) but I think when "WE" are building "replicas" of traditional cars we should be building cars similar to the norn of the group, not something outside the 99th percetile of design.

It was normal for chops to be chopped 3", even all around because the timing ***ociations had a cl*** that allowed that much chop but it had to be a level chop or the car wasn't racing in that cl***.
An angle chop either way, down in front or back would make it a streamliner, or a spectator's street rod.... ;)

I wasn't referring to chops that are just 1/2" different and hardly noticeable though.
I was thinking more of the type of chop on that otherwise outstanding A sedan from Japan. (I liked it far better before it was chopped.)

Here's a straight on shot. You can't really see the angle. Go for and inch diference front to back.

Wow! Ask and you shal receive! Thanks for the straight on shot! Is this your chop job? If so, did you run into anything unexpected since it wasn't straight down? Bending of windshield posts?

Scoot ..yeh I chopped it. I just made my cuts as high as possible. With a more severe angle you may have to get creative but it shouldn't be too bad.

Mad...The headers are speedway's kit. I'm gonna add to the length a little more.

    Looks awesome man!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I think if it went anymore than a 1" differential on the chop it would get a little more interesting.

    Thanks for the info Clark!

A model, but this one is semi-wedge chopped. That is to say, it's about level in the rear, but has about a scale inch more taken out of the A-pillars.

Its really all about proportion rather than just how much you chop. Arguably the most beautifully proportioned chop ever done is the Doyle Gammel coupe which features a 3" x 3.5" chop. The front posts are tilted back to complete the chop which in my opinion is what makes this a "killer" chop. It seems that the door window has just a hint of taper . When coupled with the slightly laid back front post........it looks perfect. I have seen a lot of other chopped 32 Cpes and the post appears more upright after the chop and they just don't look as good as the Gammel Coupe.
With the Model A, I would print some pictures of the side view and try cutting the top to see what looks best. Its going to have slightly different requirements to get the right look. There are ways to make the post actually lean back slightly, but I don't know if it would look better on a Model A. Some people like a really severe chop and I've seen some of them that I really liked. I'm 6' and I sat in a friends chopped Model A. I couldn't set straight up. Had to tilt my head. Be sure the chop you decide on leaves room for your head when you get done...........;)

    Heres the Doyle Gammel Coupe
