So every Monday weather permitting I ride my 72 Schwinn 10 speed out to Goose lake auto parts and then on to my buddy Mikes body shop (30 mile round trip) and have lunch. Today when I got to goose lake I immediately saw several new old cars that came in last week. These were someone’s parts cars so not a lot of great stuff left but the ranchero should have a 9 inch rear IMG_6383.jpeg IMG_6382.jpeg IMG_6381.jpeg IMG_6380.jpeg IMG_6379.jpeg IMG_6378.jpeg IMG_6377.jpeg IMG_6376.jpeg IMG_6375.jpeg

I like the blue dot taillights and I admire your exercise regimen which, for me, would feel like it's uphill both ways.

That’s about how many miles I have put on my bike this year since I fixed the timing chain… But, mine doesn’t have pedals.:D

Oh, and that 56 Ford reminds me that I need some new taillight lenses. One of mine lost the chrome ring around the center part.

I watched an older guy ride a real pedal bicycle yesterday... I would need a 3 wheeler, with an electric motor.

I had a root beer brown Continental when I was a teen. Some*****head stole it out of the driveway in Portland (Hollywood dist) where I grew up. Greatest bike I ever had. Gald to hear you still ride yours. I put 17 miles on my recumbent bike yesterday, not much scenery.

I put a lot of miles on bicycle back in the days. Last one was a Motobecane 12 speed. I put plastic full fenders on it so I could ride in the rain if needed. Road it to work when I lived in town and weather was good. I was well into my 30s and still riding.
That 62 4 door hard top would be a nice family car.

I had a ‘72 Schwinn Super Sport, Kool Yellow, a friend worked there so I got the employee discount on it. About six months after I got it my BIL picked up a Raleigh International at the salvage house he used to go to. The Raleigh was in the box, undamaged and I gave the SS and $50 to my BIL and got Raleigh’s second from the top of the line bike.
I didn’t put a lot of miles on it and it’s hanging in my basement to this day. I’ll take some photos soon and post them on the bicycle thread.

just don't see stuff like that in the yards around here, one, it's the rust belt and B, we're in the shadows of half a dozen steel mills that lined the shores of lake Michigan.
i do have a rust free 27 T coupe that came from a local yard back in the 60's along with the original****le. a friend picked it up in the 70's and it's been stored inside ever since.
but that stuff all disappeared long ago. I need to get the****le transferred into my name, imagine being the second owner to a car purchased by a guy who lived across town. I often wondered if my dad who grew up a couple blocks away might have seen it as a kid

my first bike after learning to ride on two wheels with my sisters bike was a green huffy cheater slick model, when I outgrew it, I got a huffy 10 speed which I still have, it's mounted on a schwinn mag-trainer.
There's pics of my 40 CWC road master and 61 schwinn hornet in the vintage bike thread

I ride a 38 mile circuit once a week spring thru fall, nets me 1000 miles. On the north end of my route there’s a 59 Edsel Tudor it’s now fully engulfed it blackberries but it was all cut several years back and on Craigslist cheap. There’s a storage yard with some OT 60’s-70’s cars that haven’t moved in 12 years or more probably spent more than they’re worth on storage fees.

Boy did you ever strike a memory for me. I was 16 yrs old. My brother sold me my first car for 200.00.
it was a 59 Ford station wagon green and white two tone.
Exactly was exactly like that one.

Mark, while your ride to Goose lake is admirable, I too am a big fan of the yard, but growing up around lake Minnetonka I, you, should know this is the best time on the lake. All the city folk have left, and the lake is empty. Prime time if, for example, if a guy had a flat bottom drag boat

I ride this 1971 Varsity quite a bit. I bought it at a pawn shop for 10 bucks. Stripped it down and built it up as a single speed coaster brake bike. It actually goes pretty good! IMG_6430.jpeg

I had a 30” varsity 10 speed (1980 only) in candy blue. Great bike, until it got stolen. I hate thieves!

When I was a kid we laced 3 speed Sturmy Archer hubs into the 10 speed wheels.
    That made a nice Schwinn

That's cool to see. Seems that those types of rough old cars, and parts of rough old cars, still do come out of the woodwork. A long-time stash a few miles away from me has had a couple online auctions. Some of those hulks would have been parts cars at best even twenty years ago. Bids haven't been high but folks are still buying which means interest must still be there. Even if they go to yard art, that's still ok in my world!
I love bike riding too but I've had my stint with older bicycles. I now have a completely O/T Specialized commuter style bike, a 21-speed Crossroads model. It has PADDLE SHIFTERS! Try those once and you'll never go back.
Only problem is it's so damned complicated to adjust anything, I gotta take it back to the bike shop in Fargo where I bought it. But it did get me riding again, and that's a good thing so keep up those Monday rides!
You never know what you'll find along the road. :)

I've parted a few oldies and treat these old cars like the Indians and the Buffalo.. NOTHING goes to waste that is useable. parted a few cars with "nothing left" and made enough to where I could have bought a decent running driving registered version of the one of cars I was parting and had money left over.

... that's a lot of miles on an old Schwinn!!
