    Hello,

Me and my brother are in the process of building a 1930 Model A Coupe hot rod (Weezy) which was purchased last November from a fellow HAMB member. With the tech advice of a few members here, we finally have a roller.

Here's some pictures. Weezy's going to keep her flawed paint job as character. She's slated for a 3" chop soon, hence the masking tape on the windows. The red wheels are all we've got at the moment as the black '51 Chevy wheels are currently being painted.

Weezy's got a 4" Superbell drop axle in front with split bones all around. The first picture here with the stock grill was our starting point. The plan is to keep her clean, very simple and neat with as little painting as possible.

Hope to post as she progresses. Thought you'd like to take a look...

Do I see wide fives in one of the pics? I love wide fives on A's.

    Hi all!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, the garage is a true mancave. My brother has 1932, 1933, and 1934 Chevy Coupe bodies all stacked about the garage. He also has 10 years worth of bent parts tossed everywhere from 10 years of building and racing dirt track cars.

I like wide-5's too, but because this is to be a driver, I am not using them. They are for sale. Weezy has early 1950's Ford 150 drums up front and a Ford 9" with Summit drums in the back. She's getting a 4-speed and 327 SBC. I know everyone and their grandmother has a SBC mill in an early Ford...but I don't yet.:) To be a good reliable driver, it was pretty easy to pick the Chevy.

I look forward to picking your brains for advice on the build, as this is my first. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions for you all. :D

  11. Why the chop? Its looks awesome the way it is.

    1931FORDTRUCK,

Nice to hear that you like Weezy. Yeah, my dad agrees and says not to chop it too. My brother jokingly says to take out 8". I like the classic 3" chop myself.

Any opinions on the chopping issue are appreciated. Since I really don't want to paint much, leaving it be would solve that issue. But that 3" haircut is so classic.

I personally like both chopped and un-chopped. This car, color and all, looks right. I vote no chop.

I vote chop it.. At least 4"...

  15. I love the look of an unchopped A. The first picture looks cool, but do you want a Hot Rod or a Jalopy? If you want to chop it 3-4" will look great.

I'd get it running first, enjoy it this summer, chop it next winter.

    I'd give it a haircut. Somewhere between 2 1/2" and 4"

    Question:

Weezy's going to be running the top of the hood only like in the pictures. What is the classic way to secure it? I was thinking 4 dzus fasteners on the hood corners.

Is there a better way? A more subtle way? Or a more cooler way?

  26. Maybe leather tie down straps?

I used the Dzeus fasteners which worked pretty good. If I were to run the top part of the hood only I'd consider removing the part of the hood below the belt line. Just think it looks better.

    Update:

Rolled Weezy out on Saturday to spring clean garage. Took some pictures in the sun for fun. The plan now is no chop, no scallops. A small pinstripe was added. Sorry about the picture quality. I still haven't learned to use my Christmas gift camera yet.

my brother's 33 Chevy is pictured as well.

Lemme see if I can post a picture here. If I can, I'll show you what I did over my summer vacation. Please stand by...

Nope...still don't understand picture posting yet. Uncle! Uncle! I can build an automobile out of sheer will, but can't work a computer to save my life.

Ok, I can see 'em--can you? My settings were off in my photo album.

Anyways, me and my bother worked on Weeze all summer and this is all we have to show for it.:) The gas tank was removed and replaced with a Brookville filler panel. All the wood was removed and replaced with steel or wood from MAC. It was beautiful wood and was stained and varnished for a more finished look.

We replaced the door and windshield headers with steel angle iron that we fabricated to fit and welded in. The roof bows and rails were from a MAC wood kit which fit really well with minimal tweaking. We welded the original wood hanging brackets to the angle iron so that the roof kit could be installed. I wanted it to look somewhat original even though there is now steel for the headers.

If you click on the pictures, they get bigger and you can go to my photo album and take a peek.

    More to come...
