Hey guys I'm setting up 4 x 97s atm on a mild 283 with ported power packs, 9.4:1 CR, mild hyd stick, 2.5" Vette rams horns. Qun I have is, has anyone set up this intake idling off only the 2 center/middle carbs alone, and have the front and back carbs without idle circuits in them ? If so how did it work for you with idle AFRs and transition/cruise ? I'm thinking it should work on this intake if set up this way ? The front and rear carbs will still have accelerator pumps hooked up as do the center/middle carbs. This is on a direct linkage, not progressive. Curiosity is getting the better of me......any thoughts ? Thx !
I do know that Segal used to make a progressive linkage setup for this intake that did what you are proposing, so someone must have run it that way.
Sounds a lot like what I am currently building with a few changes. I have the same intake on a 30 over 283 going into a 5 speed. All 4 carbs operate at the same time. ….. non progressive !!! I’m not sure you could setup your carbs the way you have described. WORDS OF ADVICE : When you rebuild your 97’s, be sure to clean the emulsion tubes. If not, it will be dangerously lean. The shop that built my engine didn’t check the emulsion tubes on startup. Check out the finish on my brand new stainless headers. That got solved real quick. And here is how it turned out
Yep it'll be interesting but I'm going to test it as I described. Being a dual plane intake, I'm betting that the 2 center carbs will provide more than enough idle air/fuel to the cylinder if the 2 outer carbs idle circuits are temporarily blocked off. Here's my home fabbed linkage with Clive's extended shafts/supports. Anyone else have any input ?
