Jim asked for Weird, Glen. I'd say your pic wins, wonder what weird trad stuff is out there? SCoT blowers are my favourite for looks, but the Latham ones are cool, and a little different. McCulloch blowers aren't everywhere, but there's a few floating about, so I wouldn't think of them as a weird set up. Apart from that, I really don't know ****, about blowers.
The automotive equivalent of "stuffing a sock down your pants". A big inch single 4 barrel would weigh less and perform much better
Yep... two engines and four blowers screams compensation. I guess the answer to the question "why?" would be "because I can". Does the So-Cal blown flatty count as a "weird blower setup" ? And excuse my ignorance, but what sort of blower was in the So-Cal Coupe? Glen.

I found this on 'Vintage shots' thread and posted it in a 'What is it' Thread but only got a few replies so I'll try again. Anybody know anything about this set-up? It sure qualifies a weird....
Look slike they were copying that Chapparall vacuum car, ****ing air from under the car to gain traction.
Not seen this before but it looks like a secondary small motor powers the blower so it doesn't detract from the power gains to the main unit.
i have a wierd urge.... Take a motor with a reverse ground cam, so it breathes out the intake, and in thru the exhaust ports, and sandwich it between a pair of 4-71's with sidedrafts. Mabey even scoops out the sides of the fenders. Aside from that i would love to try one turbonique rocket blower setups
Yeah, the really neat thing about this one is none of the blowers have rotors in the housings! (speaking of stuffing socks where the sun don't shine.)
the camaro one does , the guy was interviewed By Kempner and they showed the rotors , the only problem is the car can only idle , the blower is off a EMD or F-M train engine , the guy lives in St louis Mo. and on the prime movers they have 2 -4 of them depending on the usage they mount them on the ends as the exhaust is thru the valley
Since Detroit diesels come with blowers, and mostly won't run without them, it seems that if this thing runs at all it must have at least 3 blowers with rotors in them.
That's gonna need a bigger belt and you better give me fifty before you ever start your fifty for every one else. LMFAO That is just ripe man. Glen, That is a potvin setup. it is driven off the crank snout and is 1:1, or most likely 1:1 drive. I have actually seen that kind of a setup with a gear drive that could be changed to over drive the blower or under drive the blower.
you can actually start a detroit without a scavange blower , some of the racers use just small turbochargers , it takes a little more cranking than a standard detroit to fire them up ,but once running it actually runs better and more effiecent
yeah, they're tucked down inside where they are supposed to be. (I think there are 4 on a 24v configureation.)
I'd like to see pictures, and what kind of racers? There are a lot of people that say this works, but I've never seen it work and never seen pictures of it working either.
A reverse ground cam would not do this. Reverse ground cams allow the engine to run in the opposite rotation from stock. They still draw in the intake and exit out the exhaust, just the direction of rotation is changed. Is done in boats and some circle track guys mess with this from time to time.
used to see that kind of setup in the '50s. in fact, james bond's original car, a "blower bentley," was a 1930-ish model and appeared in one of the very early films--"dr. no," i think.
I found this unusual one… It's a "Frenzel" and is apparently quite rare. And this one's a McCulloch, which is pretty weird in my eyes… but in a beautiful way. It's Kiwi Kev's I believe. Glen.
