I don't think the line between a hot rod and a rat rod is very thin in most cases... I'd like too see us be a bit more constructive when dealing with those rat rod posts, but I'm working on that by ridding the joint from the habitual drama guys.

If Germ was back and savaging the lames, new and old, would he be considered a habitual drama guy? Sometimes the commentary from people is both drama and sidesplitting funny. It's a finer line than the one between rat rods and hot rods.

Actually, era specific would be a correct term and fairly easy to follow. For example, if the cut off year was 1959. Wouldn't that mean no modifications or parts made after 1959? Seems simple to me. Of course, you'd forever have the guy who said he saw a "insert whatever" on a car in 1958 and he can use it.

As for hot rod v/s rat rod. In my opinion it's simple. A piece of **** that someone built because they wanted to join the party is usually a rat rod. Patina and rust are NOT finishes for a finished car. Having to drive your car from the back seat because of the 12" chop is NOT cool. Barb wire is NOT cool. Having to CRAWL in and out of your car is REALLY not cool. Is a car in primer REALLY finished? Even Spiderman wouldn't have webs on the grill of his car. Exposed transmissions and driveshafts are ********. Holes you can see through in your firewall are NOT cool. These are all my opinion, but most make good sence. Just get back to making nice cars.

personally I don't see much of an issue here
cars and builders are taken at face value.
    safety is encouraged
    history is acurately posted
    individuality is celebrated
significant builders past and present are honored
    the ignorant are educated

    the list goes on
    the HAMB is thriving

of course there are bumps and blemishes
and some that long for the past
    and worry about the future

most I think work towards a possitive end and try enjoy the ride

thats a good point chili and in some regard there is a double standard there I guess... Some folks have a natural ability to come across as a little lighter of heart.

In any case, I spend more of my time trying to create good content rather than rag on folks who I don't see eye to eye with. The quality of posting is just so damn good right now and think we are doing a pretty good job of minimizing the less than good.

Like I said, I'd just like to see more teaching than trashing. Its better for everyone.

Phil very good points as always .But you know whats cool.? We live in a counry where we are free and everyone can give and state his/her view. And build what they wish. I also think the RR theme will die soon I hope.
    Happy New Year To everyone

As someone who previously DID care a lot about this topic, and was educated on forum etiquette by Ryan, all I can say is this:

Let's worry less about others and spend more time building what we want.

My pickup/rod is probably FAR FROM traditional enough for this forum, but I respect that about you guys and your content, so I'm keeping it strictly to tech questions and stuff from now on.

I'll refrain from h***ling Ryan with the things that I KNOW will cause some to get really upset.

Anyhow, I agree that the content seems awesome on here lately, and I am looking forward to picking a lot of guys brains about suspension stuff in the coming months. :)

  8. I feel sorry for the dudes who signed up with "rat" in their usernames. I foresee a lot of username changes in Ryan's near future....[/quote]

I would ask for a change, but all the friends I have made here know be by that name, and could not find me if I changed it. Well, some could, but the non local guys I talk to once a year or so would not.
Unless they would get forwarded automatically..
I don't know computers that well, but I'm sure thats not possible.
I can notify each, but thats alot of people!!!
I'm a desert rat and a rodder...I dont consider my truck a rat rod..
With little imagination to come up with another name.
Drop the rat if you can, Desertrodder works for me.

Easy to see that I'm new in the HAMB, but certainly not a FNG in the 'sport'. As I recall, it was always "run what ya brung" and not everyone had the resources to put a finely finished rod together. We drove what we had and many times it was a cobbeled together pos (by todays standards) because that is all we could do with what we had. Now, just because I can afford to build a nice ride (nice by my definition) I will not openly dis the work of someone else who may be a new version of me... (yes, I will rag on folks who use a sbc in anything but a gm ). There are plenty of cars to look at and if ya don't the looks of one, or many, simply move on. Bottom line is that they need to be legal and safe, beyond that, who is going to be in charge of the 'pretty police? or should it be the 'petty police'?

    Its not all bad!
because of the growing interest in Vintage Cars, Trucks, Traditionally inspired, Ratrods, Jalopy, G***er, and Restorations the aftermarket has made an investments in new products and tooling. This is a good thing when it comes to rebuilding engines or just finding new bias ply tires, I will agree we don't all have the same taste but isn't that what keeps it all interesting.

Well, thanks Rashy, that's how I see it too.
Not everyone sees it that way. Believe me!!

I've gotten some grief about it.
Not that I care personally, but I don't want it to affect the board in a bad way.
