Hey all! Been off the radar for a while, busy bringing up the next generation of traditional rodder! But in the mean time i traded my harley for a 64 Belair more door chevrolet. At my age I have come to realize that my state (oregon) frowns on baby car seats strapped to chopper tanks... Weird right? Anyway been trying to figure out if this little lady is a 250 or 261. Casting number on the block is 473483. Already checked out Patricks and the Inliners , much respect love those guys, but still no solid answer. Underneath the cast is GM 82. Huge distributor and starter, small side covers. Any help would be great! Thanks , Shifty

  2. Side covers? If it has 2 of 'em, it's the late model...a 261 will have one long side cover. If it's a 250, the side covers will be about 4 inches tall...a 292 will have covers about 6-7 inches high.

Thanks Rocky! Sounds like it's a 250, didn;t realize the 261's had a one peice cover. I know the 216's do. Thanks for the reply!
