My name is Donald Thigpen ,34,and I live in N.E.Florida.Been reading posts here for a while and decided that I would register. My main car inrests vary from day to day but my current projects are my 57 drag VW that i'm turning into a sreet toy AND my 46 WILLY Jeep that I built from a mix of parts(455 Buick, turbo 350,etc...)My inrests are custom body work, custom fabrication(my dad has several lathes and milling machines),and custom paint work.If anyone needs help with their project maybe I can help or At least scratch my head alongside them....THANKS...Donald
Welcome drag ,i hope you eventually come to your senses and get a real hotrod soon but until then hope you enjoy the forum...........Marq
Hey, come on now....at least he put a Buick in the Willy's. Welcome to the HAMB. I don't suppose you have any older relatives named Daniel?
455 Buick powered Jeep! A ripper! Great shop between you and your father. Many would love to have access to that stuff. Post pic of salvage yard's and local ride's when you can.
I find this very upsetting. Metaphorically speaking, I think its time to rally the villagers and kill the monster before it makes itself at home. Paul
I don't like it either. Seriously. I don't want to read about VWs and 4x4s. So if you want us to go goo-goo over your projects, it ain't gonna happen. And all of those "Leave him alone ... I LOVE ALL CAR" hippies can go sit on it. I'm sure you're a handsome and charming man, with incredible fabrication skills and envious bedside manners, but I simply can't trust your judgement or taste. Your choice of vehicles is entirely wrong for this forum.
[ QUOTE ] I LOVE ALL CAR" hippies can go sit on it. [/ QUOTE ] Not a Hippie, but I do love ( and own )different syles of cars, as well as Trad Hot Rods. I try very hard not to bring any of them up, unless it ties in with something which was already said by somebody else. There has to be a balance between respect for what this board was created for, while still benifitting from the knowledge that other car guys can bring here...
So, Lets get it over with. What do you have for sale and how much are you asking. That's what just about everyone who comes here without a traditional rod or custom is looking to do, unload some of their unwanted projects or parts. Not to be hard on you But I can't for the life of me figure why you want to join us with your interests as expressed by what you already own. Frank
Really, it has to stop. I like lots of types of cars like many guys. But why dont you at least FAKE it and tell us you want to buld a Model A? Otherwise go 4 wheel in Florida.
im a member of the volksrodders forum, and those guys really think that this site is the shit for ideas on their own brand of hot rod, and there is a hell of alot of talent on that board. i have a bug, also a 50 buick, a 70 c10 panel and a 74 bmw 2002, and there is a place on the internet for each of em, i dont think we should give em the boot just cause they dig bugs, he said his interest vary from day to day, remember... the toes you step on today may be connected to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow. he may be full of knowledge on the whereabouts of some of that vintage tin some of us are hunting. thats just my .02 worth
I KNOW I won't get a friendly welcome from y'all; I was warned. BUT, I really don't care; I came here to learn, and network with fellow gearheads. If you don't want to, fine by me. I have VW's, quite a few of them, and they have appeared on the cover of National Magazines. But that's not what I am here for. As I said on another thread, I would give my "teft lesticle" for an all steel '34 3 window, with a blown, injected Ardun motor. My brother-in-law has a 34 5 window, '36 truck, '57 supercharged T-bird, and an "R" code '64 Galaxy 500, so I am fairly well-versed in Ford-ese. I am putting together a rod, and have the chassis done- Magnum 5 inch drop I-beam, Posie's spring, hairpins, early Ford wires, wide whites, Wilwood discs, and guess what? It's all on a VW floor pan, with a 10 inch extended wheelbase, to approximate a Fiat Altered. It will weigh in the neighborhood of 1300-1400 pounds, and have a naturally aspirated, no N20 200 horsepower- do the math. Again, I know I am an outsider. I am NOT here to try and convert anyone to VW's. I am here to learn. Teach me or not; it's your choice. I'll be lurking, reading, and if I think I can be of some assistance to someone, I'll give assistance.I've already PM'ed 2 people on this board, that were looking for parts or cars that I happen to know about.AND, I have my eye on a 1948 or '49 Thames Panel truck, sitting in an Avocado grove about a mile from my house- 25% engine setback, CAE straight front axle, narrowed Olds, set up for SBC, it's an old Gasser that I would just LOVE to resurrect....
[ QUOTE ] volksrodders forum, and those guys really think that this site is the shit for ideas on their own brand of hot rod [/ QUOTE ] Um, yea.
The Willy's is old enough for NSRA. Is that good or bad? I say we ALL go over to the Volksrodder forum and see what we can learn? RASHY RASHY
Well seems like the good the bad and the ugly.I'll start with I hate 6 cylinder cars with a passieon!!!Not much on model A's either Wouldn't mind building a track T with some scallops down the side .I'm just here to learn and help out If I can.As for cars we agree on what's the point????My deal is to be different,That's why I just finished welding one my VW fenders and tommorrow I'll work some more on my homemade hidden hinges and think some more on my motorcycle mirrors as door handles idea.My other dream cars include 55 chevys,67 or68 Camaro's,and 55 Era chevy trucks. My dad is building a 62 IH Scout (350,700r4,dana300case)It's our tow vehicle, and he has a 46 IH pickup he wants me to help him chop and do some sectioning on the hood for a dually project.I guess I'm on the wrong board and will leave you guys to your glorious I heart 6 clyinder crap????Guess I'll click over to the Barney Chatroom to talk about my custom all steel fast as $#$$ VW......See yall.....Donald
I never understood the fascination with VW... the only ones I ever liked were the ones turned into glittery dune buggies I used to see a lot when I was a kid... say, around the early 70s... .... missing you already...
And,.... With that warm welcome I offer you another, Stick around fer awhile. Its great to mix it up alittle. Just watch out for the crochity ones they like there stuff plain, with a side of black and white. I was just welcoming another Vdub guy on, he was gettin the same shit. Oh well, you can pick your friends but your stuck with nasty HAMBers.
If you;re not into traditional styled hot rods or customs... I would try to find a messageboard where they welcome and imbrace individuality, cause it ain't gonna happen here. The HAMB is for traditional rods and customs... and that's about it... once you log on and have a few posts under your belt about THR&C, ok, maybe a FEW HUNDRED posts about the subject... THEN you can "come out" and post off topic stuff. Until then, take the 10% off Vasoline cupon and get the fuck back in the closet. Sam.
Or, in case you still don't get it. I'll paraphrase it for SamIyam. Go Fuck Yourself. What IS with all the VW post's this week. GeeZe. Some dune buggy mag must have published a link.
Fuck guys, what the hell is up with the bullshit attitude and arrogance?! Fuckin back off the guy for a minute shit...I'll tell ya what I cant stand,is the arrogance on this board, who the fuck do you guys think you are? You guys should be ashamed.. Whats the big deal with owning a VW? You can't rod a VW? Bitch Please,I seen many a VW rip the shit out of Deuce Coupes and A's at the track and on the street. And if I remember correctly there was a chopped VW in one of the coolest movies ever " Hollywood Knights" and as for the Willys, well shit during WWII rodders hopped them things up all the time. And oh yeah they mentioned that in "Hollywood Knights" also. Now I know all the conformists and followers and plain Marcus Haters are going to jump on the bandwagon here ..Fuck it!..Please feel free!..But whats right is right.. Anyways bro for what its worth I welcome ya,I think you know how cool this board can be most of the time.Good Luck..
Marcus, I'm not a hater, nor am I a Ruler(tm). I'm a nobody. It's just that, IMHO, somebody has to draw a line...somewhere. Or else next week we'll be taking about traditional Hummer2's or something. There are PLENTY of other places to go for people to talk about VW's. As has previously been said, this message board is for TRADITIONAL HOT RODS and KUSTOMS. Sure, many people that belong to this group like Volkswagons, this IS NOT the place. Whether or not you class them as "traditionial" or not.. I don't want to read about em. A flat black bug, or one with a model A box???? Does it belong...maybe a POLL is in order.
[ QUOTE ] If you;re not into traditional styled hot rods or customs... I would try to find a messageboard where they welcome and imbrace individuality, cause it ain't gonna happen here. [/ QUOTE ] isnt that the truth. Im a first when it comes to being and individual, but my Pop's have always told me, "There's a time and a PLACE for everything SON." I think that would apply here. VW's nice cars..I have had a few, but...there are other forums for that... "Heil"
Ok..Well then we better tell my buddy and old time HAMBer " Purple that he should find another board for Datsuns while were at it..??I know what your sayin, but I dont think this guy is the anti-christ of traditional Rodding.I don't think one guy is turn the board into off road heeee ha and Euro shitbox chat. The VW is a classic and its a drag bug..it aint no pot smokin Hippie Skippy mobile...I think we need to be a little more considerate..
Point taken, Marcus. You're RIGHT, one person is not going to cause this board to take a swing. Or be swallowed up by the VW gods. Just listen to me here; there has been ALOT of VW post's lately. Good or bad, that is obviously not for me to deccide. I, and not just I, do not CARE. BTW, if that Datsun turns out even close to how cool the rendering was, I'll need to swap my undergarmernts. For unsoiled ones, that is.
