You could always move to ONTARIO, where they can suspend your licence for 7 days and impound your car for doing 30 MPH over the speed limit or 150 KMH in a 100 KMH zone never mind the fine, and this is before you go to court, if that doesnt get you how about $150. fine for smoking in a vehicle with a minor aboard. I might just stay home.

  2. Greedy is right!!! Costs my wife and I $1400 a month for medical. Thats like adding another 35% hit on my income after taxes have already been taken out!!!!!!

Point is, whether you are in the US, or Canada, or anywhere else, it is YOUR duty and responsibility to ride herd on your elected (and the appointed!) officials. When dumb*** laws and regulations are proposed, YOU need to make your voices heard. That is how it is supposed to work.

People think (wrongly) that the US is a democracy. We are NOT, and never have been. We are a representative Republic. We elect nimrods to represent our interests in Congress. Unfortunately, they don't do their jobs properly. Democracy is "majority rule", we'd be voting on everything, by definition, if this were a true democracy.

Canada, you influence your politicians in the same manner. We in the US have too many taxes, but you guys up there? How do you make a living with the onerous taxation you have to endure?

koolkemp, i think if you leave NS you should move to BC, i grew up in NS and moved here to BC 20 years ago, it is car /hotrod heaven in Canada, no vehicle inspection unless ordered by an officer, and they have bigger things to worry about, i had my vehicle inspection licence in NS for about 5 years back in the late 70's, back then i had a 46 chevy pickup with about 2" cut off the bottom of the rear fenders and a cop told me i had to install mudflaps now or he was going to take it off the road, if i remember the law was that any modification from factory was not allowed, i'm sure the laws have been rewriten by now, NS is a beautiful place but the thinking of the law and courts is old and overly strict, move out to the wild west young man.

haha! Gotta love the stereotypes. It's not that bad. Some things are cheaper up here so it evens out. I've lived in both the US and Canada, and there isn't that much difference for me. If you want to see taxes, go to Europe; Scandinavia is a good place to start. ;)

I've worked alongside Canadians for over 30 years, so I hear things about your government and your taxes, every day. Worked in Europe for three years, too. I know a lot about their tax burdens, as well.

  7. Do you have any more information from the Nova Scotia government on this issue ? In particular, any memos, government bills, any new legislation or regulation, updates to inspection station manuals, or is this just being done through “policy”? I’m concerned that if this becomes law in NS it may be adopted by other provinces/territories as part of their own road safety agenda. It’s a tough thing to fight in Canada once the politicians get dug in – here in Ontario we’ve tried, but unsuccessfully for the most part. If you can give me any more specifics on this initiative, I’ll see what I can do from this end.

Brits get mediocre health care huh? Six years ago I fell off a ladder and severed my spinal chord permanently leaving me a quad. Spent 10 months in hospital had physiotherapy, occupational therapy to help me make the most of what movement I had left, provided with a wheelchair, social services adapted my home so I could get back with my family as soon as possible and provide me with 2 full time carers 24/7. This plus all my medication and supplies. Cost to me? Zip nada zero nothing. Shameful.Shoulda happened in the US huh?
