Not much hair left on my head from scratching it trying to figure this one out but.

Any one ever have a one wire alternator go bad, sending enough juice through its housing to cause run on ?

This thing.runs hot to the touch in short time then ( with the wire disconnected ) the engine runs on for about 5
seconds after turning the kill switch off?

Doing this same test ( with the belt off ) the switch kills the engine immediately.

Its got to be sending enough juice to keep the msd box lit and confused.

    Ric

These electrical problems is cutting test and tuning time short, going to remove the screens and try the shear plates.

    That's strange Norb.
You are saying with no wires hooked up to the alternator it will run on?

    Yes

Tried it several times, then took the belt off ( no more run on )

Tried this after replacing the one wire from the alt. back to the battery. ( thought it was grounding )

When it's runnin with the belt on and the wire off can you pick up voltage in the case or the 12 volt stud on the alternator?

I stated last fall this would be a season where I make no major changes ... nothing was said about a boat load of small ones ... which is just as radical and maybe even more expensive.

I changed manifolds to one more suited to the application. It's hoped we solved the pan-evac issue that plagued us last year but just in case - this new intake along with the steel lined supercharger gaskets should help keep the blower off the picnic table. This intake is taller so I needed a longer blower belt. I had my engine builder do the intake and he gave the long block a once over - it passed with flying colors - and I got him to install a more traditional cam drive for the fuel pump to replace the remote drive. This meant a re-work of the fuel lines and shut off. After a broken crank hub and pulley I added a crank support. I also repaired the bigger fuel tank and redid the tank mount so it now includes a safety legal front bash bar. I've been thrashing the last 4 weeks to get it all together ... The most obvious thing I DIDN'T do was fix the body from my little staging lane accident from last year.

First fire is scheduled for this Thursday. This weekend will see the Scout our prefect and Larry's 23 T Altered at a static display in support of a Special Olympics Car wash fund raiser then it's shake down passes July 1

Good luck....I broke mine for the test and tune....but I really like working on this car so I'am happier than a punk in boys town.
Hope to have enough used parts to hold up for some fun......can't wait!!!

Yes, when wire is hooked up gauge shows it is putting out voltage but in a short it time gets hot ( no bearing noise )
so I think it is grounding out internally.

At the track the Volt gauge showed it stopped putting out, ( it got really hot ) at high rpm.

I think it was messing up the msd box, it snuffed out during the burn out ( like you shut off the key ) took a while to get fired up ( like a msd relay had to reset ) then the motor missed under load all the way down the 1/4.

Hey guys...I know some of you aren't on Facebook, but I thought I would share a few cool things...

    1) The Goodie Bag has set a new bar. Remember, goodie bags go to the first 350 cars that aren't Mustangs.

    2) We have more great giveaways for the racers this year. We have 25 copies of Isky's book that will be part of the giveaway tent for racers...and they will even be signed by none other than the Camfather. We draw car numbers and you win stuff. Like good stuff.

    3) We are going to have some new Meltdown items for sale at the tent. Make sure to get to the tent on Thursday or Friday as stuff goes fast.

    4) I heard that Scott is going to be signing autographs when he puts a whoopin on me....get in line early.

    Have a good one fellas.
