wanna weld the seem on my hood and the holes for the emblem but im not a wleder so looking for any one round the seabrook south houston area that can give me a hand ! can throw some cash your way or barter for some thing thanks !
make sure when you guys weld it, you keep it cool and only do spot welds, when I did mine i tried to fill the hole for the bird orniment and it warped my hood. the emblem is no problem.

Go slow. When you think you are going slow enough, slow down. I welded 3/8 rod into mine 1/2 inch at a time, skipping around for 2 hours, and still warped it. It goes pop, and both sides have deep indentions. Go slow.
It all depends on how you weld it if you use a mig tig or oxy. With all three first i would tack it every inch then cut the flanges off the under side of the hood and then hammer and dolly the seam to get the pieces perfectly lined up if your going to mig weld it you want to keep hammering to stretch the seam so that it is about a 1/8 of a inch domed right on the seam so that when you weld it it will shrink flat. If your going to tig it you don't need to pre stretch the seam and the same with a torch and like everyone said go very slow and do NOT put a wet rag on the hot metal that will do more harm than good because when its hot the molicueles are relaxed and spred out when you cool them very fast they slam back together and that causes more warp than just letting it naturally cool hope that helps good luck man id give ya a hand if you want to haul it up here to nebraska.
i was told it will warp no matter what unless you hammer weld. I have warpage too, the metal around the weld is shrunk so it needs to be hammer and dollied
I just got done doing mine and my advice is DON'T weld it.I have been doing bodywork for 15 years and I've welded just about everything and I dont think that you can really do this with a mig and not warp it.I spent two and a half hours on this stupid thing and I thought I was gonna have to throw it away.It took me about six hours of metal work to get it all back straightened out.If I had it to do over I would go new school and glue and just do away with all the other bullshit.Here is what I was gonna do before I decided to try to save mine.Drill the rivets on the flange that holds the hood together.Now grind both faces of the the flange with a 36 grit roloc disc.Use Lord Fusor LF112/113 panel glue apply a bead on both sides of the flange put it back together and use the rivet holes to line it all back up properly and make sure you reinstall the brace at the back of the hood.Use lots of vise grips to clamp it togetherso it fits nice and tight make sure and wipe off all of the excess glue on the face side of the panel with the solvent of your choice.Clean it off really good.Then you can go over the seam with one light coat of fine strand mar-glass and a little putty.If I had another hood this is what I would have done, but I'm broke and my time is free to me.Hope this helps. I've done one with MIG that didn't warp bad before. Took me about 8 hours straight. What I did was tack it every inch, wait till it cools, grind down the tacks, repeat until welded solid. I'm about to do it on my hood too, but this time I am going to TIG it and do it the way patman187 described.
Not to hijack the post but hammer welding is just hot planishing the heat in the panel relaxes the metal and its alot more forgiving but if you get to carried away beating on it while its red hot you will make it very brittle becuase you are changing the way all the molucules stack in the sheet and with all due respect glue is for models i know that the glue has the same tensel strength as a weld but how many times do you crash something or put a dent in it and test the tensel strength??? Im gonna weld up my hood this weekend and ill post the pictures the way that I do there are 64000 ways to do the same thing and they all can yeild the same result.
