I just welded up the rest of my notch in my shoebox with a lincoln 140 mig welder. When I was down to the last 4 inches the welder started hissing and popping at the tip real bad, and keeps clogging up the tip as well. I replaced the tip and cleaned it, and also tried two new surfaces that were cleaned very well. Again same thing. I thought the welder was to hot and let it cool as well for a few hours and still same thing. So what have I done? I have tried all the different temp settings and still didn't help at all. I know this is a little off topic but it is slowing up my build. Thanks in advance guys.
Yes the tank has 1300 in it still and I can hear the gas and feel it just fine. The welds went from perfect to horrible just like that.
Sounds like your having a feed problem. Make sure the wire slides through your liner easily and that you have proper drive roll tension.
One cool little fact to add. While welding if i lean on the car and i am sweaty i get shocked pretty good when i start to weld.
Check your ground. All of it. Ground clamp need cleaning? Ground on work? Work need cleaning where ground clamp attached? Ground Wire connected Ground Clamp? Ground Wire frayed anywhere along the length? Ground Wire attached to the ground bolt inside the Welder? I also had an issue once where my feed line hose worked itself 3 mm away form the feed rollers and started balling up like a rats nest inside the welder. I hadn't tightened the securing bolt. It did all kinds of funky things when the filler wire touched the case of the welder.
Did you regulator get bumped? Try turning it up some and see if that helps. Also check ground like has been said and check to make sure you wire is coming out smoothly and not slipping to much. If you only got a 140 welder make sure you bevel those notches real good to get good penetration.
Guys turns out it was the ground loop was loose on the clamp. Simple fix and now she is as good as new. Thanks so much for all the help! I love the HAMB!
