Not exactly on topic but definitly part of the hobby . Was quiet at work today so took the time to practice my mig welding which is something I have minimal experiance in , so you could probably call this my first real attempts . Some are ok some are junk .

A good LOOKING weld is not necessarily a GOOD weld. Full penetration is the most important aspect of welding, not a pretty weld. Weld on some s**** pieces and cut them apart (perpendicular to the weld) and see if you got complete penetration. If not, change the machine's settings or your methods until you get a complete weld. After that you can work on having pretty welds.

think "setup and root p***" go from there. lincoln has good wesite with info on mig welding. always have proper ventilation, respirator and eye protection. there was a thread on mig welding and how it's effects shorten your life.

My attempt at tig with a scratch start pretty bad , those scratch starts are a bit of a pain , cant wait to eventually get the chance to use a pedal tig .

  9. Hey there Mooseman,
I arced a couple of brackets (4mm) for the A Coupe the other day, and I must say I ended up redoing them with oxy/ecetelyne at work as I was ashamed to say that I arced them.

Haha 4mm I cant say I have ever attempted to gas weld something that thick . How do they look .

  11. Mooseman,
Yeah they came up a beaut as I'm a far better gas welder than arc. To be honest I've never even tried mig.... shameful isn't it.

tag man is 100 percent correct. penetration is key you should be able to watch both sides of the parent metal braek down when you are gooing along
