I'm running a bottle of Argon/CO2 on my mig and wonder if I can use that same gas on a tig welder? I've got a small, air cooled tig/plasma that I bought for the plasma part but if I can use the same gas and not spend $$ I may find myself tigging more things. Any experts out there? thanks
Argon with a TIG - steel or aluminum. Argon/Co2 mix with a MIG on steel. Haven't tried the MIG on aluminum. I tried both welders on the opposite gas and it didn't work. You'll need another bottle and regulator.
A cheap alternative to 75/25 on mig is straight co2. About 1/4 the price, better penetration, but more spatter. works good on solid wire, works great on flux core wires.
What he said!!!!!!!! Tri-mix on stainless steel, Mig on the alum......works good, need the feed rollers and liner for the alum. but you can do it with the MIG. I can MIG alum. all day with my small 175 Lincoln......for the bigger jobs I use my 355.............but to do it prefectly.....you need a push/pull gun.......and get everything clean, clean, clean....!!!!!!!
Straight Argon like said above for TIG. I use a 90/10 mix for MIG at work though with solid core wire.
Generally straight 100% Argon for most TIG welding. Some exceptions, but for most 100% Argon is the way to go.
