Having a functioning welder does make welding a bit easier. Looks like you may be off to a good start.

  3. Update: got the toe board in!!!! Starting to spot/butt weld it in slowly. Only ended up with a few blow throughs. Great more holes to fill…….. now I know why you don’t do weld runs on sheet metal.

Now your cooking, everyone starts as a beginner but having good equipment makes things a lot easier. For me to weld I have to stay focused and take my time.

Some things can only be understood by experience. Your learning curve has just begun. After you burn enough holes, you will learn how to fill them in pretty quickly as well. Hang in there and keep going.

Keep the lenses clean on your welding helmet. I cleaned mine everyday. That helps as well, when you can actually see the puddle, you can learn how to not burn through, as often.

Put a copper bar on one side and weld from opposite side. Welder might be set too hot.

If you don’t have access to a copper bar try a piece of aluminum or brass . The copper bar , aluminum or brass works as a heat sink .
Looks good Your getting the hang of it .

I took a welding class at a college and the teacher had a sign
" three things that make a welder,
    "Practice,Practice and Practice"

Practice is very important, especially for hand control ! I pride myself as a “ good” welder! But only with my right hand! Welding with my left hand , I am an “OK” welder! It has a lot to do with controlling the rod! My brain, tells both hands what to do, the exact same way! The right hand just does it better!

    Practice, practice, practice!
