I had three applicants come into my place of employment last week. I had set up weld tests for all of them. The first guy lit himself on fireo_O So I suppose a good tip is to wear flame retardant clothing:p

Just a question, who taught you those bad habits? Did you learn them on your own or from someone close and older than you? And about the MIG, did "everybody" that actually knew what they were doing show you how to use it or did you have to waste a lot of time and material figuring it out?

Anybody paying attention here, the kid's not learning to weld on a car. He's learning how to control what he's doing right now. Later comes DC stick, MIG, TIG and the appropriate procedures for each and whatever else he's lucky enough to learn from my son. If he sticks with it, when Wayne turns him loose, he'll have a free education in welding that will rival anything that anyone on here has paid for.

6011 and 6010 were known as battleship rod . Used on rusted navy battleships

who's got a harbor freight mig welder ?

Anyone else on here take all the welding courses at Santa Ana College JC back in mid- 1970's?

Expect to fall a few times, even when you think you can walk really well, and you will soon be walking and chewing gum at the same time! You got this!

Didn't mean to imply that he wasn't being shown properly. I think its nice that your son would spend his time helping someone.

    Funny story........
My first welder was one of the tombstone Lincoln stick welders. I had an old studebaker truck that I wanted to scrap. I cut the frame so I could make a trailer out of the trucks bed. I needed to get rid of the body so I took the welder and turned it all the way up and pointed the rods at the sheetmetal body. It blew thru the sheetmetal and let me cut it into smaller sections much like a plasma cutter does. Not pretty, but got it into small enough sections that I could load it into the now truck bed trailer and haul it off to the scrap yard.
They weighed my trailer, unloaded it, weighed it again. I went inside to get paid..........they handed me 25 cents.
