Installed side glass, wiring harness, front spiral shocks and mounts, headlight/fender mounts, bolted fenders to the body. Just need to install steering box and column, windshield and rear windows. IMG_7586.jpeg IMG_7593.jpeg IMG_7588.jpeg IMG_7587.jpeg

At some point soon, I will take the wheels to get dow 7 coated. I want to drive it safely around the block at least once before.

  4. What did that old front end come from?

I'm on the fence whether to dow 7(gold color) the wheels or just leave them. Polish maybe?

15's look right in the rear.

  10. Polish or Dow 7, killer either way! I have never had either, but Dow 7 seems to be way less up keep, and just screens total drag car.

My vote would be Dow7, it would pick up the gold lettering.
A nice pair of big round shapes underneath to call out the Bollocks!:D
What are you thinking on the exhaust peeking out? Black to 'hide', White for the vintage vibe, Aluminum to flow with the body, polished to match the lights, scoop, bumper and wheelie bars?

Love this build. I wasn't aware you could still get Dow7, I thought it was unavailable hence all the paint and powder coat attempts to duplicate it.

Yeah, I thought the coating was no longer available to the public BUT it is still available, I found this company and others.

I guess that in most cases, it's people that are trying to replicate the color on aluminum.
Since the wheels pictured appear to be actual mag, it could be done.
You would probably also have to polish first, so it could get expensive, if they even accept 60 year old parts.

Never been a fan of gold Halibrands unless they were brand new. Also, like everything mag, even the Dow 7 doesn't look new for long. At this point in time, either polished or the time honored dark gray oxidation unpolished.
Man, the new paint job sure kicked it back in time, good idea.

  15. Sure you can find a company to do it, but people here have done it. Dow 7 is an acid process. You can get the sh*t, still.

There's a thread here, with a drag car restoration, or something similar. Cast or polished magnesium surface. I wanna' say cast ???

Maybe a longtime board member will come & honk that horn.

I can't recall, at the moment .. & honestly fear the rabbit hole the search function will bring me.

    It's here, though.

  17. Ha. Close. That link shows a Russco thread, that gets a "404 file not found". Maybe.

Roothawg has an old thread, in regards to him and his dad, coating their magnesium wheels.

So much stuff lost and found here. Dow 7 a plenty, for sure. It can be done at home.

    Would definitely look cool.

Had a discussion once with HAMB'r Don Nowell (DND) about Halibrands and Dow 7 and how they differed in appearance slightly from time to time and if I remember correctly they were hand dipped in a large container of the coating and the variations had a lot to do with who was doing it at the time and how long they were left in the solution.
Was always a fan of the the magnesium Hals but especially those big 16x10's and how they looked coated in that Dow 7.

Another inexpensive but less permanent option is VHT Gold Metal Tint. I use it on carburetors.

I decided since I'm re-doing EVERYTHING, then I should accept my fate and lengthen the rearend and also do something about the headers and ugly exhaust.

I have the utmost admiration of Machinists that can work metal in such a manner...this is serious and critical business always...truly it all is but there are some trades that revolve around the heavier very intense dimensional metalwork...It's all an Art...

@drumyn29, your captures are period correct with all the older Vintage Team visible and tossing in some other monster hardware...the throwback is inspiring and nearing its Newly Inspired Renaissance...
