Picked this up about 3 weeks ago, just now getting pics. 1940 Ford Standard coupe. I found it near Hannibal MO. Good old car, project was started nearly 20 years ago, and been sitting ever since. Very straight, pretty solid for the most part, good front floors and most of the trunk, pass side inner wheel well, and part of the trunk floor need help, and a little on the driver side, and the very lower quarter panels. I have all the pieces to fix from another 40 so should fit well. ALL the hard to find parts and then some were in it, factory front seat etc. I bought a 36 ford chassis to build from so I can keep the car as a roller as I build. I started on the frame last week. Chassis Engineering suspension front and rear. Parallel leaf rear dropped axle front with 4 bars. Engine will be a 351W and a C4 both kept on the mild side. 9" rear with 3.00:1 gears. Stock 16x4's in front with 5.00 16's and 4 1/2 rears with 6.50 16's black walls with stock 40 caps. F-1 front brakes, vega box, etc. Wheels, firewall, dash and all the interior garnishes and jambs will be gloss black, body will be red oxide primer with a semi gloss urethane clear and of course some tastefull pinstriping. Interior will pretty much look like a stock 40 should, but with hidden CD player and air conditioning. I should have the wheels primed this weekend, and the frame patched up and ready for suspension engine mounts etc. I hope to have it driveable by spring, but probably not completed. I pretty much out of garage space now, so I guess one of the Willys' will have to stay in the car port for the winter.
Man that looks good and solid, you have a great start. I wish I could build just one more car.......you know what I mean?
Dang that is a nice find. Someday I will........ After looking at Greezys car this year I really want one like his. That one just spells out Hot Rod to me. hot rod roadster got one and now trailer-ed too. I hope my turn comes around soon. LOL
Well you know what they say, "Friends don't let friends drive Fords!!!" Friends right? The Raven and I will be by about midnight to pic it up. Looks like a pretty neat project my friend. You done good.
Just has 39 hubs on it to roll, it is a 40 frame under it, but it will not be used as I'm building the other frame. when I pull the body off that frame will be made available. I'm pretty stoked about it. I want a 50's era looking car , but some comforts and realiability. I have to give a thanks to Greezy, as he passed his 40 left overs to me, which helped out a bunch. I hope with any luck, and steady cash flow to have it ready for next years Kansa HAMB-B-Q in April?
Good find. There's a 1940 Pickup less drivetrain in our local rag here for $1400. The guy states he needs to make room in his shop. Damn! Maybe I'll go look at it.
