I must be one of the lucky ones. My wife never says much about my vehicles except maybe.....I like this one. I've owned and sold just about everything I've ever wanted. I have owned in excess of 200 different cars in my life. Yes I made a list once. I spent weeks and had to ask friends and family for help. I can't even remember them all anymore. But it was fun.....

'40 standard coupe, '40 deluxe coupe, '40 convertible---any or all. Hotrodded, stock, street rodded--I could care less.

Congratulations on the boy! I sold my toys before my baby girl was born, never thought twice, I spend so much time with her. Sine then my baby girl wanted to lift the grand cherokee, so we lifted it. Now shes thinking a fed would be cool. Shes only eight and my best partner. She used to toss me wrenches at frightful speeds while I lay under the jeep (never ask a three year old to toss you a wrench while your under a jeep).

To change the wifes mind just spend every waking moment with her, with your hands all over her. Before long mine was begging me to get a harley, jeep racecar, anything..... again.

Ha! Well I can say the same about my wife and her horses....three is enough.

But on a serious note. Build a car completely and drive an enjoy it.
I have to fight the urge to look at craigs or a car in a field...it kills me but I have to keep with the program.

Bucket list. 37 truck (current build)
60 Apache Running and destroying transmissions at will
62 Comet (this was my very first car)
And possibly a 65 mustang or a Daytona coupe.

I have 5 boys all under the age of 6 and its no picnic at times but there are moments whens everything is quiet ( usually when they're asleep ) and I think how much better and meaningful my life is now. The reason I bought the '57 wagon is to cruise the family around in style and I already told the old lady ( she's 22 :) ) that the next ones a go fast.. its cool cause she is into it too but I get the feeling shes more into the driving than the building part.

Really its all about budgeting your time and money.. for the boys, for the old lady, for wrenchin'..as long as the bills are paid and the wife is laid its all good!

My Bucket list is more wide open:
    wagon (got it)
    30's roadster
    late 40's early 50's shoebox
    pre'65 truck
    home built bobber

Congrats on the son! I've got a 4 month old boy and a 22 month old girl. They are awesome!

-Boattail speedster focused on mid-20's era; I'll have to build this one...
-53-55 Corvette with modern underpinnings -doesn't need to be original 'vette, needs to be scary fast and able to handle it.
-55-58 4 dr HT cool-mobile for cruisin, with acres of chrome. I'm partial to BOP at the moment. This is the most realistic so far.

I've got some that are not HAMB friendly that I will omit.

Of course this could all change next year, lol.

  15. I have two boys, 3 and 5. As the sole bread winner 'm usually pretty busy, so it was not hard for me to sell both of my OT race cars. I sold one at a great price and the other one an okay price...

My realistic bucket list for the next 5 years looks like:

    Mercury custom (have that)
    2008+ Corvette C6
Street/Strip car some sort of GM body

I have one and hope to have one of the others this year too I have other bills too.

Ok been bustin' my balls for 10 years, since I quit racin' motorcycles, did it semi pro. Which means work all winter and live out of a van all summer racin'. She put up with that for 5 years. Thanks love. Sold the bikes and race gear, trailer blah blah blah.Well we bought houses and started doing responsible stuff then things went for a shit and we ended up doing a cross country move. Worked my ass off again ( that's the one part of your body that always grows back :) ) bought a house got all set up again and then the Mrs. opens a can of worms by sayin' "You should by yourself something nice like another bike or whatever." God bless her. So I found the chevy. Oh and now she's preggers after 8 years of trying and being told it wouldn't happen not without some serious scientific intervention. Oh and the chevy still goin' to the body shop. Just finished buying furniture for the baby. So on to the list.
    Shoebox Ford
33-34 Ford coupe 60s drag style blown 394 Olds
39-40 Ford coupe chopped sectioned show rod along the lines of the El Matador.(been drawing this one since highschool )

hey man thanks for this thread! I agree its a trip when kids start showing up had me a crazy year made the Girl friend a wife had a kid sold my bike to get a better down payment on a house (every time I hear a v twin go by I sigh and shake my head) but everyone is right when I see my daughter and her mom playing on the living room floor I think pretty decent trade. I still have my Galaxie hard top (the avatar) my first car another 66 Galaxie convert and when i started thinking I needed something else I cant afford to finish the wife just said its gotta be a 4 door so I rolled from Nor cal to idaho and picked me up a 66 ford 250 crew cab!

    Bucket list for me

first all current rides done of coarse

41 Buick coupe done like Matranga never seen his merc!
47 fleetline torpedo back with the wood and every accessory ever
41 ford coupe see above buick
63 Galaxie 500 xl black w red interior laid out chrome steels
    63 impala ss
    58 2 door wagon
    64 riviera

the list could go on to infinity

    4 cars? ok...

1 of em def wont be hamb friendly but here goes..

    1) 1959 Chev - I have a sedan and i am more than happy with it. Im in the middle of a freshen up of this one but funds will be tight for the next 12 months.

    2) any 36 or earlier 30's sedan - Chev. I am not fussy. Well i got a 36 4 door i am going to tudor, chop, drop and make a good family rod out of. It's the most solid 30's orig steel find i could come across and i cant wait to get stuck into it again.
    3) 34 chev coupe. failing that, any all steel unusual 28 to 34 coupe, full fendered.

    4) round nose mini panelvan. chopped, lowered, full metal flake paint with black base and high gloss, louvred hood, Pin striping, white faux leather interior, just a really fun hotrodded mini for a run about. i would settle on a sedan too but a van would just be friggin awesome

  19. yeah I traded of a few bikes to get back into HotRods so I could take the family out to cruises and shows - she wont let me get rid of the bikes I have left - though it was cool when I built the shop out back(now can hang out at home instead of at another shop)can devote spare change to my octane hungry addictions as long as all other bills are paid - the 9yr old(Big Al) loves helping in the shop on the Harleys & HotRods and going to the cruises & shows to hang out with her buddies..

My first wife used to crank on me for buying cars but she was always there with her hand out when I sold one for a profit. Even today with no wife, my car habit supports itself, and makes me money.
My bucket list is my next find, who knows what it will be. But I do hope a 3 window ford coupe is on it and a real clean 57 Merc short wide big window pickup.

Congrats on the little one. After my daughter was born we had the talk. I was a longtime bachelor before i met her and very stubborn about my toys. I was worried and selfish about making sacrifices. Thank god i have a patient and understanding wife because i did grow up and got my priorities in order. I still have my cars and my family and after the family is taken care of I get the my little car allowance.
    I couldn't be happier.
    My bucket list
    36 ford 3 window
    60 pontiac ventura
    58 plymouth fury
    72 torino gt

  22. '34 Ford pick up drag truck.
    '49 Fleetline.
    '52 Ford ramp truck.

    1) 55 Bel Air 2dr ht-I'd like it to be a gasser.
    2) 57 Bel Air 4dr ht-Late night cruiser.
    3)36 Ford 2dr coupe-Therapy car.
The fourth one is a challenge. Its between a 56 Olds, 49 Shoebox, or
    a 59 Plymouth Fury.
Though I think it's going to be a 57' Pontiac Star Chief Custom Safari.
She won't stop talking about getting one.

  24. I have very good friend, who's wife kept his in a Mason Jar above the fire place.
It took a while but, he took them back and kept all his toys!
