I asked the question recently, if it was stupid of me to take my engine apart, and I got yes and no responses.

well, I took the heads off it....

I assume this means it has been bored out?

The coolant passages look really good to me..

if I have one side off, may as well take them both off. All the valves have Ford script.

I have been told this is where you can figure out the year of the engine, but this does not make sense to me...just an 8 and an A

Are these the good EAB heads?

So, I am happy I took the heads off, and only one bolt broke . But I do wonder what year this engine it? it is either a 52 or 53, it had truck manifolds and oil pan, EAB heads, and an 8BA intake and carb.
And what would the displacement be now that it has been bored ?

  2. The .030 bore probably din't make more than 3 or 4".

It doesn't look like it from here but do us both a favor and dip a finger in the cylinder and check for a ridge, that is a quick and easy way to check for cylinder wear and let you know if you need to investigate further.

This reminds me of the alien taht landed and gave the closest guy a black box with a button on top. Whats' this the guy asked and the alien said in times of an emergancy you push the red button and everything would become ok.
People advised him to give the box the the president or the pentagon or the head of the united nations but by then he had already taken it apart to see what that button did!
Pull the other head and have a looksee!

Now pull the tube from the back of the intake manifold and peek in to see if you have adjustable lifters.....

Assuming it doesn't have a Merc crank.;)

Looks pretty nice Jeff! Looks like it does have hardened seats in the block, if it's a 52-53, that would make it a truck engine or someone added them during the rebuild if it was a passenger car engine. Or, it's an earlier passenger car block.

  12. Looks like it's sleeved on at least one cylinder. Nice looking engine.

You'll be the first person I call ;)

    shoot, 3.75 stroke

must be an illusion, none are sleved

    because I can....

  15. That's as good an excuse as any. I have been tearing things apart as long as I can remember and I can only think if one or two times that I probably shouldn't have. The more you tear into thing the more comfortable you get with it.
