Just afew pictures which I took yesterday. I have got my engine and box into position . The AOD is bigger and I have had to make another gearbox mount as for me it is further back.
I am getting the brackets profile cut so I can weld the plates on the ch***is for the engine mounts.
Some of the items on the engine, carb an air filter I had lying around to give me a feel for the doghouse.

Pictures of the engine with the doghouse fitted. The only issue I have is about 4" just at the front part of the doghouse which I can open up a little to accommodate the valve covers and allow for the movement in the engine when its running.

No it's not a new grille its the original just bead blasted and painted with red oxide paint. The metal work is in real good condition all over the truck which is very pleasing.:)

Maybe stock Ford valve covers would fix your clearance issue with the doghouse? I can measure the valve cover height on my stock covers and compare them to your Edelbrock covers?

  6. I think it is width as much as height, looks like he needs to bring the cab down about a foot!

Afraid thats the cab height I wanted. I have already lowered it 5", and I am running the original frame with the beam at the front, and the 20" rims.
I wanted to keep it looking a little like the original truck, perhaps not to everyones taste, but hey I like it.:D

Steve I was not trying to be off hand about my truck. I did contemplate putting it on airbags etc etc but, the more I looked at the truck, and I did a lot of looking while I was building my Coupe , the more it grew on me to keep it tall. I do like um low too!!
My Coupe is the lowest Rod I have ever done, I've always been used to the Center Door, Tall "T" ( had it for 35years). So now when I'm driving the truck it will allow me to look over everone. Lol

As Daddio said. The smiles behind the windshield.

  12. I also agree with the smile behind the windshield. Most everyone is looking for ways to "get down" so I ***/u/me(d) that you were trying to get rid of some of the space above the engine. It's all cool!

    Thanks Steve,

To be honest I only placed the carb and the air filter ( which I had lying around ) and shown in the picture to see how much room I had, and fitted the doghouse back to check the height and width.
Also to show Tony how much room there was, there is space above the engine at the moment. That will get less when I hook up the carb sandwich plate and a proper deep air filter.
At least there should be a good air movment around to help keep it cool,

    I hope!!

    ha ha.:D

    Cheers

  14. A little knowledge about the periscope and rear windows on these trucks. They were fitted with a boom and the only way to see the pulley at the end of the boom was to look through the periscope. (over the top of the cab and utility body) the rear window mod is just a guess, but I'll bet the winch for the boom was in the box up against the back of the cab. Possibly you needed to reach through the back window to operate the winch controls.

I found out about the history of my truck and why the back window was cut out. Since Al's truck is basically the same telephone truck as mine, I bet his was identical. On mine, the back window was cut out and removed because it had an add-on crew cab. It only had a door on the p***enger side and a bench seat. There was a rubber gasket between the cab and the add-on cab. This allowed more crew workers to ride along to the job sites.

My truck also had an utility box on back with tool boxes on each side and a huge 30" cable drum in the bed. Then there was a large canopy that covered the bed up. The periscope was needed so the driver could keep an eye on the lines as he let out more cable.

The back of my cab rusted through because the add-on crew cab was too close to the trucks cab and rubbed together.

    Tony/ Steve,
Have you ever seen a truck that was complete with all the equipment?

I was told there is a vintage picture of my truck on the Buck Hills Falls web site, but I was unable to find it. My truck was used in the Poconos. Someday I will get a picture of my truck the way it was in its heyday. Will post it for all to see.

Since I have put the truck under cover I have been busy stripping it down.
Took the fenders to have them blasted and then protected them with a drop of red lead. Took all the gl***, winders & locks off the doors.

Picked the doors and lights up from the shot blasters today.

Just a little rot in the very bottom of the doors, and a little on the lamps but overall I am pleased.

I can only dream of that much metal in my doors! Northern Cl***ic has patch panels for the inner and outer door bottoms.

    Yes

I do feel like I have managed to purchase a good truck for the base build.

It's a good job too, as I would have to import any patch panels etc as no one does anything for these trucks.
There is a bit of work on the fenders to do but again it's all good steel.

    Cheers Steve:)

Hi Tony how you doing ??, I like the look of your bed, its going well.

To lock the p***enger door you just push the inner handle forward and it locks the door.

I think I am going to take the lock hole out of the drivers door and replace it with a handle that locks.

Changed the front existing brakes for the newer brakes I had off the 52 truck and they match the rear.
Old type ones top of picture replacement ones bottom of picture.

    Progress in the body shop.
The fenders straightened out and the holes welded up and a skim of filler. check see if they are okay. Still loads of work to do on them but its progress.

    Arrived today 6.2.14.:D Thanks lads.

As I had the wheels shot blasted and cleaned I decided to get them painted. Due to the split rim thing, we painted them with the tyres on.

The front whitewalls look real nice, when I took off the paper.:D

Cool to see a part make it 4400 miles around the globe and go to a good home. :)

Love the color on the wheels. What color is that?

Sorry about the customs ********, guess we should have figured out a story before it left.
