I finally got my Buick running. I was so excited. Like jumping up and down in victory. So I took it for a victory lap around the neighborhood. Came home, shut it off, let it sit.. Checked the oil. Went to fire it back up to check tranny fluid and it turned over a few times before the starter froze up then started making a god awful racket like nuts and bolts in a dryer and wouldn't stop until it was unhooked from the battery... Time for a new starter. It was fun while it lasted, lol

Had a flathead starter do basically the same thing, when you shoot 12 volts to them they beat themselves to death real quick.

  9. Any car that breaks in the driveway is a good one. I had a 53 buick with the starter under the gas pedal used to start all by itself.

I know that one, my sbc powered daily went through 1 a year for 8 years!!!!

  11. Very true, I had an O/T 77 F-100 that would do that while driving down the street. After replacing the ring gear twice, a few starters and solenoids I eventually just sold the truck. It had way to many electrical gremlins!

Mine had that too but after re-wiring (still not finished) it didn't get hooked back up. Have to get under the hood to do it now :p

As far as break downs I must have the best car in the world! It has only broken on me once away from home, but less than a mile and it got back home under it's own power anyway. And coming home from billet proof two years ago it limped home with completely blackened points (didn't figure that out till we got home) and a spark plug that was bent all the way down and not doing anything. It was goin' on 4 out of 8 cylinders at best the whole way and the second i pulled into the driveway (after having to pull up about a half mile long hill on the final stretch home) it died.
