Glad you're ok. Going after the extinguisher could have had a worse outcome. Better you collect the insurance on your car than your wife collect the insurance on you.

Like all the rest of the posters, I'm glad you got out OK, and sorry about your loss.
But why and how did the lug nuts fail after you had tightened them the night before? Did they come loose and come off or did the studs shear or what? Did you have any wheel adaptors or spacers on it?
Also, please come back to this thread and let us know how you make out with the insurance people.

I'm happy you are safe. Fast thinking on your part moving away from the fire as fast as you can.
After a fire like this, is anything salvageable? Could it be rebuilt?

    Guys,
I suppose it could be saveable but it would take a LOT of work and money, I think. Its just a surface rusted shell now. Getting to all the nooks and crannies to remove the all that surface rust would be iffy. Also, with a busy family (wife and 4 kids) I dont have much time or money! Plus, what does that much heat do to the metal? I dont know. I am here to build another one, which is what is really important!

I am glad that you are still on this side of the gr*** and not a crispy critter. Take it from me getting over being a crispy critter is not fun.

That still doesn't take the sting out of loosing a sweet ride. Maybe your best bet if it doesn't belong to the insurance company is to salvage what you can find another body and go from there. If I wasn't so far off I would rtell you to stop by and get yourself aquainted with one of the projects I won;t get to in the next ten or fifteen years. But it will probably cost you less to find a body close to home than to come after one of mine.

Ya know we always have those help a brutha out posts maybe this is actually a good time to do one. What do ya think fellas, someone got parts to throw at nash? I can probably come up with some Packard plug wire or a tire or two.

Sorry for your loss, but as many have said, it's just a car (and no, it's not at all like having a kid die!). I think you probably made the right decision to just stand back and let it burn, I don't think I'd want to be down on my knees spraying a small extinguisher up under a gas tank fire, burns are the worst injury to endure, no car is worth that.
Some have suggested you rebuild it, if I were you, I wouldn't even consider that unless you're a superb metal worker. Burnt cars are so warped and hardened, they're nearly impossible to bring back. Just move on.

This happened to my cousin's car...he had electronic door locks that wouldn't work because the fire destroyed the electronic system...fortunately he wasn't in the car when it completely went...so yes it ****s... but at least no one was hurt.

Sorry for the loss of your car but..... Please do not take offense but I have total lossed two old cars and I lost my 19 yr old nephew on 4-8-11 he was like the son I never had . so comparing an old car to a child... well it ain't even close.

Quoting myself to save typing. We can debate from now on, on whether it would have been worth the risk to try to fight that fire.
But what is important is to try to build and maintain our rides at a high level of stopping things like this before they happen. An objective answer to the question quoted above would be one more srep towards a better built, safer ride.

Thanks Mark. I'm looking at a 1941 Chevy Master Deluxe coupe tomorrow, supposedly in excelent condition, all stock. I am still working out the details with the insurance company so I dont have the check yet but I can at least put a deposit down to hold it if need be.

Really sorry to hear about your car. At least you are ok. So how does the story end? What did you end up buying? The 41 chevy? Do you have pics of your new car? Lets have a happy ending!!
