and a few local hamb guys at the Mid-America motor-plex ( 1/8th mile ). My son is in the not so hamb friendly S-10 ( ya gotta start somewhere ) along with Malcolm in his Galaxie, Hiboy32 in his 70 Chevlle, Rob Lee in his modified, Madmax with his bike and Xderilict had his modified roadster out but didn't race. Had a great time even though I didn't bring a car to race myself ( I'm not a good spectator ) It was fun getting to spend some time with my son as he's headed back to colleage in a few days. Perfect weather and a pretty good turn out. Heres a few pic's of the boys and some of the other cars there. Gary

Very Cool. I had a lowered white s-10 in high school too. Later we built a beautiful blue vette powered s-10 with american racing wheels. I could blow off camaro's. Downside was getting stuck in 1 inch of sand with my girlfriend.

  4. what happened to the Camaro, looks like he got a little out of the groove...

His still has the 6 cyl. but has 4:10 gears, shift kit, KN filter system, headers and been chipped. Not a rocket but a good place to start. Gary

Yep he got a little loose just passed the 60' mark and smacked the guard rail. No one got hurt. Gary

I had a great time!... Thanks for going, Gary - and it was very cool that Lee went and raced his pickup!

    Malcolm

My best (and last) run was a 10.32 at 72mph.

That's awesome!!! The s-10 is cool and I am sure that he will be picking up a hot rod next. A lot of people start with s-10 me included!

Gary sorry I didnt get to visit with you. The hood blew up on the falcon on a pre race flogging, Killing the hood, hinges and smashing the windshield. So much for the drags, I did go but never ran into you or Nick.

  15. Very cool that you are getting to spend this time with your son. Treasure it. The memories last forever. I was very fortunate to have a dad who loved anything mechanical. He was into all things automotive all his life. He was capable of making anything he needed, and he passed a lot of his knowledge and some of his ability on to me. We worked in the machine shop together for nearly 40 years. He passed in 2000, and I miss him every day. I had two daughters, and no sons. When my oldest was nearing driving age, VW's were the cars young people wanted. I built her a nice little 55 bug, that she had no interest in. Sold it and bought a Toyota when she moved out. My youngest was different. A real tom boy. From the time she was 12, she was out in the garage helping me. I had a 56 sunroof bug, and she went to all the shows with me. We built her a 60 sunroof, and she showed it all over So Cal. When she started college, she decided to sell it because it wasn't safe in the parking lot. She's got two kids of her own now, but says someday she's gonna' have another bug. I hope I'm around to help her with it. I have many fond memories of our "VW" days together. It don't matter what your son is driving, you and he are enjoying it together. Bet there are a lot of HAMB'ers that would give their left nut to be doing this with their dad, or son.

What a great story !!! Thanks for posting.
We also have 2 daughters and although they think of cars more as just transportation we still have a great time with all of them. We have 3 jet skiis and spend as much time as possible with all 3 of our kids and there friends as we can at the lake. It's probably some of the best times I have all summer. Gary

Yea, I'm thinkin he wasn't the first to hit it.

That Corvair was crazy fast. wish I would have gotten a shot of him rolling through the traps. Can't remember his times, but he would launch really hard everytime twisting his left front wheel about 6' off the ground.

Don't know about stomping any competition, but we'll be ready to have fun. Maybe even get in a pass against Big Olds ? Friday won't get here quick enough. Gary

The camero busted the nose up a little. Talked to the owner its been the way it looks since 1970. Busted nose tweeked frame horns, cooler okay. Rear end spit greese out of the vent (early olds housing) onto the right slick.

Gary your son needs my S10 Blazer with the 350 TPI in it. It would be a good sibling to his truck (its white with a cowl hood too). Probably a lil more fun to take to the strip and the back seat folds down too, so he could haul stuff back to school. ha ha ha ha ha

Thanks Scott, but I might not tell him about this one. You coming to Mokan ? Gary

He's having a tough season, if it weren't for bad luck, he wouldn't have any luck at all. Gary

thanks for posting this Gary.. There is nothing better than doing things with your kids involved. It was cool to see him out there racing. My late model was making better passes than ever ( atleast in this incarnation) Heck almost bracket like 9.37's. I know not fast , but atleast it was fun. I had my worst reaction time against Rob, when I needed it the most. For some reason, my bucket of bolts went a whole mile per hour faster against Rob.

    See ya at the Drags.
