Event Coverage Went to a car show... and a park broke out?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by sckracing, Sep 28, 2010.

  1. Maybe it's the economy. Maybe's it's because it's late in the year and guys are burnt-out on showing their cars (yeah, like that ever happens). Maybe bigger, bteer advertised show are draining the rodder's wallets earlier and more often.
    Who knows...
Anyway, I hit up this medium sized annual car show this past week-end, and in the years past they had a pretty healthy car count (the general public attendence has run the gambit, but it too had been healthy in past years), but this year I noticed I could see more grass, and there more spots available under some of the old oak trees to sit and munch some lunch, then in years past. Sad.
There was a mix of GG cars, rats, early 30's restores, bikes, and even some gems that were still owned by the original (or at least 2nd owner). Hell, there was even a tricked out farmall(?) tractor (I believe it was a local FFA student project). Not a whole lot of out-of-towners (or county).

Got some pics of the ones I hadn't seen around this show season, but feel free to chime in on whether or not some of your locallly produced car shows seemed down in attendence this past season.

P.S. The white '54 mercury you can't figure out?, is apparently mated with a 90's Merc Cougar w/'54 front and rear clips  (I ran out of camera battery or I would've shot the trunk view)

  3. And lastly... (I know some of you guys are digging that tractor)

As a sad side note (and I guess the unfortunate state of today's car building "punks"), the 90 something owner of the white '48 plymouth (46,000 original miles AND everything on it is still original AND he's stored it on his carport ever since he got it back in the mid-50's) told me the ONLY thing not original is the passenger side sun visor - why you ask - well he said some punks stole it, and it had the ORIGINAL bill of sale, ORIGINAL initial owners title, registration, and orignal insurance card tucked into the visor's sleeve. NOTHING else was taken or destroyed in the process?!

  5. There are a couple of local shows I've ducked recently. One is an annual Labor Day event, gold chainers and cry baby dolls all over the place. There are better cars parked at the curb and the outer parking lots.

I did go to one by the beach (Robert Moses) on 9/26. It opened at 10, I got there at 11 and already had display cars leaving the show.

    Nice pics....
The local shows in my area seem to be doing very well. A few new ones actually have had ~50 or so cars show up.
I like the smaller shows myself, but I don't walk well, so that may be part of it.

There is one in my area that always has a huge turn out for a older people home . Well this year there was about 1/2 the cars/trucks there ! I couldn't believe what I saw . There are so many people I see and talk to there every year and they weren't there this year . There were no other shows that weekend that would hurt this show at all . They have the show same time every year . Then the show this past weekend that is usually really good had the biggest turnout they have ever had ! It was up about 35% to 40% ! But they were mostly street rods and muscle cars . No traditional cars/trucks at all were there this year . Still a good show ! :D
Was nice to see some new blood there too ! :)
I just think the way the economy is and all the shows that keep popping up here and there all the time , you need to see which ones to go to .
Anyway our show season has ended pretty much here in Pa. Winter will be here before long too !
Hopefully , next year will be better for many of us to be able to go to some more shows !
