Well, I ordered his tail light lenses on like Thursday....they are already here!!

He told me on the phone that he had to make em....I was figuring a couple of days to make em...couple of days to ship em....coming from Cali to here ...usually 5 days. They look really cool.
Gene is a cool guy......he might do well for himself in this custom thang....... [IMG]

Ron good call on the lens selection.....

Great, now when you see a set of the other guys compare them. You will see the difference.

I have to trim em up a bit. He left em long. No problems though. I hit it on the belt sander and she smoothed right up. I am waiting for my bezels now. They are only 5 hours away and they aren't here yet. [IMG] I think they look better than stock though. It changes the look of the taillight.

There was a guy here on the HAMB last month that posted some pics of the lenses he made by clamping some red acrylic between two forms and then applying air pressure one one side of the acrylic while he heated it from the other side. The end result looked just like the lenses that Winfield was selling at the Grand National Roadster Show last month in Pomona. I looked at what he had out on the table at the show...he was asking over $100 for a pair of those lenses...the clear back pieces were cut out of common flourescent light panels. I'm still not sure if it was a stroke of genius or a rip-off...I know that I wouldn't have paid $100 for them though. [IMG]

Thank God...I kinda figured that any HAMBer would have better sense than to drop goldchainer money for tailight lenses. I feel better now...

I figure he had to pay for booth space....supply and demand my friend. I thought about making some for myself. I saw the insert and I thought...is that a light panel? I want to make a mold and try my hand at it.

I've been thinkin' the same thing. One of the techniques that I was considering was using a diamond cut plate to press the acrylic against while it was hot. That way the reflective part of the lens back would be part of the red lens and not an add-on. You could probably make a mold off the backing piece that you have and then pour an aluminum part from it that could later be used to make the impression on the new lens...just a thought
