Hello!! I trust that everyone had a great holiday season, and all is good with you and yours! Ok, enough of that...lets get to it.........some of you may remember that at the end of September, some of you may remember the thread started by Nailhead called, "Say goodbye to one of Narth America's Drive-ins", and how bummed we were to be losing the old Hillcrest Drive-in....which was celebrating 50 years...Well, I am happy to announce, to everyone out here in British Columbia, and Washington, and everywhere else if your around...that in May, The Twilight Drive-in will be open, and operational!! I am so tickled, I could just piss! So keep an eye on Jalopy Journal, and hellcatrods.com for more info. I will post new stuff as I get it! See yah at the DRIVE-IN!!
Sweet man! I was really sad when i heard that it was going to get shut down, just so they could build another strip mall or some bs like that.Like we really need more strip malls round here.Hearing this has made my day!!!where's the new location gonna be?still in langley?cool man!
Great news!! As for those that are disappearing. There's gotta be a way to get Drive Ins registared as historic landmarks or something to protect and keep them around.
I live in FEAR of the local Drive In crowd. Where do those people hide all week while they wait for saturday night to roll around again? Are they still breeding? Oh I forgot, that's what they do at the Drive In. Looks like most of them took a swan dive into the shallow end of the gene pool.
jason..i wondered what you looked like hahaha..good news tyson, but it just aint goin' to be the same ...but a cool idea anyway..is it going to be here in langley??????
Shhhhhh, it's at 260th and Fraser Hwy in Aldergrove. And Poncho, whats different?? You get in your car, and you drive to the Drive-in, and you watcha movie, eat a corn dog, and maybe....just maybe.....get to cop-a-feel! THATS the drive in!! It's TRADITIONAL!
Is that the new hillcrest one, I am on their mailing list and they said that they were opening a new one in Langley
Yah, it's gonna be right in Aldergove, which is about 5 minutes from the American border, for those of you not around here. As for how I found out, I phoned the owner, and that was the downlow intel he gave me...hehehe, that I immediatly through on the internet!!
I had heard and read that drive-in's might return due partly to the fact that the automobile is back in a big way. People in general love to be in their cars new and old so its only fitting that drive-in's return so we can go back to watching movies(or whatever)in our cars.Seems like these days everything old is "new" again!
Yah, the cl***ic car and everything they stood, and stand for is on the uprise! But the problem is, and it was the problem here, that people don't want to sell to a single buisness, (unless it is a major comp.) It's not worth it to them. Instead they want to sell it to the guy that is gonna develop it and build ****py townhomes on it. It's all about the $green$, and not the nostalgia. Everyone is out to make a buck! Or else the local town officials don't want it in their back yard, "but it would be really nice to have another drive in........" Gone are the days that farmers gave up their fields for such foolishness... UNTIL TODAY!!!! The fellow in Aldergrove gave up 5 or so acres of his property to have them build it!! And then proceeded to get them to sign a 20 year lease!! Thats 20 years of Drive-in movies! I CAN'T EFFIN WAIT!!!

It's TRADITIONAL! [/ QUOTE ] I see what Poncho is saying. Each Drive-In has it's own personality. I've been to quite a few different ones and each one has a different feel. It's a combination of the staff, the architecture, the patrons and most importantly the memories you have of that particular ozoner. While we go around to various venues to watch movies under the stars we always come back to the Judy Drive-In in Mt. Sterling,Ky. Why? Because it's home and has that"feel". Given time, the new Drive-In will have a feel all it's own and have that special place in your heart. I know every time this topic comes up I throw this link up , but it's worth checking out. www.drive-ins.com or some of my pictures http://community.webshots.com/album/77167913meOtDG
There's now a Big Kmart and a Lowe's home building supply where our local drive-in usta be. Now this drive-in was there in the early 50's, (maybe late 40's but we moved here in '53 so I'm not sure) when the surrounding area was still just a bean field and they didn't need a ome building supply store then. Maybe it's a home re-building store? Now the entire area is built, there isnt an available lot for miles and there's a building supply, with a mostly empty parking lot the size of a drive-in theatre. (And it was a three screen theatre!) What a shame...
