Yes there are some small tracks in Oregon. One is operated by some racers. Maybe Chili knows them. There was a Hamber that knew them well He had like a Morris Minor or something with a BBC in it I think and He was from Oregon. He always responded to posts with Drag Racing. Hasnt been around for awhile. The track is in Southern Oregon. Ill search it some. FEDER
yes sir, the only way i am coming this year is if we have access to the track earlier than last year ... let the party guys and gals hang out in the rooms all they want , I come to race and visit at the race track,....
Hey, all may not be lost. On May 18-20, there are going to be drag races held at Kingdon Airstrip in Lodi Ca. $100 bucks for all three days! It's farther for some, but this thing is going to be a blast! I would love to see some more HAMBers there this time. Ryan, you should really concider this location. The owner is all about this shit now.
Yeah! What Sam says. I vote for getting in early and getting to look at some cars which i didn't get to last year because I was to busy working on the HA/GR car.
Ryan, I've PMed you in the past about this, but you should consider Samoa Drag Strip. It is a traditional drag strip with tons of history. It MAY be getting repaved soon also.
I also want more time at the track. I like the air strip idea. I might be able to come up with some portable timing lights. Airport drag racing is the most traditional form.
Southern Oregon.....Medford???? Isn't there a track in Eugene/Springfield??? There's a good ol' track in Burns, I believe, kinda in the middle of nowhere......but has some quick cars run....I don't thinks it's NHRA either (a plus).....May be a bit of a drive for most anybody (even me ) but it would be cool to have an event like this in the general area.....
Ryan....my brother [Janglehead here on the HAMB] has contacts at the Jackson County Raceway in Medford, Oregon ['bout 30 miles up I-5 from the california border] and he may be able to get sumthun done. He works in the tower announcing some weekends...gimmee a PM if you want me to check it out.. BTW, he's the one with the chevy powered Morris...
there is a place in souther montana near billings montana. might be able to organize something with them. they have some prices on there site too. http://www.yellowstonedragstrip.com/index.cfm
Rats! I wouldn't mind paying those fees, but you're right, only 6 hour on the track is mighty a mighty short time. Thanks for trying.
Ya you got the Woodburn drag strip if its sitll in working order. I remember doing the High Cshool drags there when I was growint up in the Portland area. Cody
I heard someone bitching at the spectator entrance last September.... Couldn't believe it....specially as how parking's free.... GG charges what $12-15 for walk in's plus $8? for parking at Pleasanton!
Theres is that 1/8 mile track in orangeburg. And another east of Columbia on I-20. Don't know if it's 1/4 or 1/8. 1/4 would be cool. We already have a HAMBer sponsored East caost drags in Reynolds GA. Really cool track. We need more HAMBers there. all the hard work has been done by Redsled http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159109&highlight=run+brung
Ryan, I can second what Rainh8r said about Yakima. It's an old timey feeling track that is in a town that's very receptive to hotrodders. It also never rains there in the summer. I spend a week there every august for a big show with friends and they have some of the nicest people I've ever met. There are a few shops there that I've seen on shop tours which are pretty cool. I guess I'm just hoping for a HAMB event in the northwest. If you can get it done and it's up here somewhere, we'll get Fleetmaster's coupe ready to make it's first run down the strip.
We did the Rat Fink Party and Drags at LACR (Palmdale) last year, that was pretty good except for the hot weather (July in the high desert). We arrived early, did all the show crap and ended up eating and carying on until almost 11:00pm. I made 8 back-to-back runs and I know alot of others who ran until they broke or got tired. Moldy runs around like a wild-man but he always manages to pull it off with Bernies help. I guess there are problems with that property right now though.....too bad if that's true.
hey Ryan - what would it take to get HAMB sponsored? The first year was pretty much all hambers then the 2nd year got rained out. It was a blast - camping at the track. Hambers hanging out. I am confused - the last post about East coast hamb drags turned into a west coast discussion. Now this post is titled West coast but has east coast discussion. lets just go to the drags.
If you come to the east coast, why not do it at The Rock? NC/SC is a pretty centralized location for the East Coast. It'd be rad if you coul dwork it out to do something on the old rockingham speedway since nascar doesn't race there anymore. I think they still may use it for testing, but the place looks awaefully sad there not being used with ads for races from years ago still on the track signage.....
I've seen some good nostalgia 4 speed only drags there - you could touch the cars while they were doing their burn outs. It was a killer day.
HAMBERS can meet at the Antique Nationals at Palmdale in early June. It is awesome and meets traditional criteria.
Sorry, didn't mean to imply anything. I was saying that it a sponsored by a HAMBer not "the HAMB". But could we get some HAMB sponsorship for REDSLED.
I remember the post you are referring to and the person mistakenly put "East" in the title instead of West when he posted the thread asking for info. In this post Ryan is just letting those that had an interest in the "west" coast event that he was trying to put together, know that the event is not going to happen this year BUT perhaps next year. OTHERS are the ones that are suggesting west coast and east coast venues. Of course, all info is good BUT folks need to keep in mind that even an event in the middle of the country such as the HAMB Drags, which couldn't be more centrally located if he tried, gets a couple hundred cars. What would an event in the far reaches of the northwest or southeast bring? It's all in the numbers I'm afraid.
HAMB Drags 2006 was great --- I can't wait to go again this year! Thanks to all who make this event happen. Malcolm
ryan, thanks for trying for 2007. i argee with you totally. i'd have no hesitation shelling out 45 clams for a day at the strip, but the amount of track time they were gonna allow wasnt right. good call, and better luck next year. hey, i do live in a cul-de-sac, maybe we can drag here this year? just a thought your time contributed is always appreciated.
Thats Him -- JANGLEGUY Ryan Ill bet He could Help You out for sure. That would be an exellent location for a Westcoast HAMB Drags. Its pretty much a central point from Arizona to our buddies in BC Canada.Let alone Cali and Wash. Ide travel FOR SURE to make that. Shit We,d bring all four cars for the Hamb Drags. If it was centrally located like Medford Im sure You would get a better draw than If in Ariz or Cali. There are ALOT of PNW Hambers Ya know. FEDER
