Would anyone be able to ID this old convertible with 'fade away' fenders? I put it on Instagram a while back and it was ID'd as a possible Westergard custom. It was also mentioned that it was possibly Gerald Fassett's Chevy. Story behind the kustom, it came from a field in Southeast Kansas and was drug out of the field in the early 1970's. It used to have a 'hardtop' next to it (possibly a carson top). It has been stashed since the 1970's and we recently in the past year had to move it. Thanks, Chris
It has all the markings of the Fassett Chev. except later it looked to have frenched headlights and the chromefender guards removed. I'm going off the color photo on Rik's site, assuming it's the same car. Really needs to be restored, it's a great car. Mick
So, it's nosed and decked, door handles removed, chopped with fade aways. What else has been done to it?
quarter windows are rolled down, rock guards are covered by the skirts in the BW pic. the car is not fully painted and the handles were done later. 49 Chevrolet license guard up front, most likely had one out back as well.
This is a later version of the Fassett Chevy. Seems odd that they someone would change the steering wheel and add the fender guards back in but who knows.
Looks as though the Fassett car had frenched headlights, this car does not. But it's certainly possible the car was hit and the front fenders were replaced with stockers.. who knows?
The rear fenders appear to be molded on in the maroon Fassett picture. I find it hard to believe anyone would unmold them. I have serious doubts its the Fassett car.
This car appears to have the convertible top frame intact. The Carson style tops only use the header bow. The rest of the frame is not used. Other than the rear bow.
Probably not the Fassett car but certainly is extremely similar and a car well worthy of a restoration or at the very least better storage, shame to have it sit on boards in a dirt floor shed without any wheels on it.
Found this while looking for something else. Explains the fender extensions further. Which proves my earlier statement was wrong.
I think your gonna have to dig threw the car and turn up some new clues but damn is that a rad kustom!
