Westleys Bleche-Wite for whitewalls

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by brianangus, Jul 25, 2010.

  1. Has anybody used this stuff for cleaning whitewalls? A friend of mine swears by it, and picked me up a bottle when he was down in the USA to a car show. As I'm reading the instructions on the bottle, there is a big warning "Do not allow product to contact magnesium or aluminum wheels, painted or gl*** surfaces, eyewear, fabric, and non rubber items. Permanent damage can occur. USE ONLY AS PER LABEL INSTRUCTIONS"--Then it goes on to declare itself "America's #1 selling tire cleaner. It comes in a spray bottle. Now excuse me, but how in the name of Christ am I supposed to use this stuff to clean whitewalls on my car without getting overspray on my painted wheels or painted fenders????

It works great. Even used it to clean my white car when i was 18. The car came out snow white. I dont have any experience with magnisium wheels though but on tires they cant be touched. The stuff works.

It also freshens your breath as it cleans your tooth.

  7. 8FLEET9--Nah, not new, just cautious. And I think that spraying from a spray bottle onto a whitewall without getting any on the painted wheel would require an act of God rather than an act of carefull!!!

I use it on my Firestone bias plys, and it works well. My wheels are painted, and I've got chromed hubcaps on the wheels as well. I havent had any issues, but I don't let it sit long on the tires either. Spray on, wait a minute or two, then lightly scrub with a stiff bristle brush, and rinse very well. Done.

It'll be fine on the painted wheel. I used it for years on my F100. It works really well.

SOS pads work just as well.(And they're a LOT cheaper)

Unless you're completely Wasted, you'll never have a problem with an "errant scrubbing pad incident"....:D

    Briangus,

Try spraying it on a sponge first if you are concerned. I have used it painted 35 Ford spokes with trim rings and had no problem. I know the hub caps and trim rings are stainless but it didn't affect the paint job on the spokes at all.

It works OK but so does Comet or Ajax with a stiff brush. I think Comet may be cheaper.

seriously though, I spray it on a rag first and apply it that way.If the whitewalls are real dirty you will need a brush and scrub scrub scrub.I swear by the stuff, it does work really well.

How about spraying it on a piece of cloth or hand towel, and then rub that over the white wall? Wow, I dont give myself enough credit for being a genius.. You guys here on the HAMB should be happy I allow you to be a part of my world...LOL.

Thats the way I've been using Armor All for years..

works great, do not get it on black vynil interior or on gl***, other wise the greatest stuff.

  19. The stuff works fast, no need to let it sit. The sprayer is controlable, I squirt a bit on the tire and some on the brush, scrub, rinse. Also is the best cleaner for black rubber. But the number one rule for keeping whitewalls WHITE is never let them be dirty, as the contaminants get into the pores.

The tires on my 52 Merc were "Brown Walls" before the Bleche-White scrub down.

This has been covered before. Use Simple Green straight from the bottle with #2 steel wool (or maybe #1) and then rinse well. Simple Green leaves a slightly sticky rersidue, so you want to rinse it well ... but the residue won't hurt anything anyway. Been using it this way for over 20 years with no problems and with excellent results. I used to use Bleche White but Simple Green is better.

I used it when I was younger on the whitewalls of my Granada... worked fine with steel wheels, did not damage. The thing was though, Comet and a green scrubber pad did just as good a job with less effort to clean up. The tires wore out before any damage was done to the sidewalls with the Comet, and this was on a daily driver that was kept immaculate... just some food for thought.

  23. I have a "test panel" that I sprayed when I sprayed my roadster pickup, 6 years ago. It is a seperate peice of sheet metal, not any panel of the truck itself. Today I sprayed some of this tire cleaner on the painted test panel and waited various times---1 minute, then 3 min. then 10 min. Each time I wiped it off with a damp rag after the test period of time. It doesn't seem to have damaged the paint in any way.---Brian

I've used it for over forty years and still use it. I always hose down the wheel and tire first, spray it on and immediately scrub the tire and hose it off.

I've used it, but probably won't again. I live down a short stretch of dirt road, which meant everytime the truck came to town, it'd get a bath to look good. Always sprayed the Cokers down with Bleche-White first. After doing this for a few months, I noticed that the whitewall area appeared to be "cracking" , as if it was drying out. The tires are great, no other cracks or anything. The truck is usually kept inside a shop with a concrete floor, and there are no pool chemicals, ect. stored near it, so I'd guess it was the Bleche-White. Think I'll switch to Comet and SOS pads.

I use the Bleche Wite, and love it. I used to use Simple Green, and it doesn't even compare. Once I started using the B/W it pulled tons of green **** from the Simple Green out of my white walls.
The Bleche White is not recommended by the tire manufacturers because over time, it will pull the natural oils in the rubber out and dry up the tire. But by then, the tires are nearly dusted anyway. Your choice.
My wheels are powder-coated with polished SS trim rings, but I am just very careful. No problems at all. Spray it into a rag and enjoy. It's the ****.
