thanks guys for your response. To be clear it’s a nothing special 350. Supposedly his Dad bought it new at a dealer. And your right there’s a million of em out there. I like the comment that it’s a mismatch , I agree. But like my friend ( who doesn’t know but is impressed with the word Zephyr ) I don’t know what’s so special about a late 30’s Zephyr Transmission . There is an adaptor, bell housing and clutch. There is no ***le for the frame. The frame is a roller with mid 60’s slotted Aluminum mags on it yet stock rear end / front end. His Dad got took by a guy in Oregon who was going to restore the 36 but in the end kept the body and his Dad was lucky to get the frame , engine,,trans back. The only reason I have a ‘30 model A is that I bought it from him so he could pay legal fees on a divorce. I’m a lifetime Chevy guy . His Dad had the A fixed up in the mid 80’s by a guy in San Leandro Ca . It’s in good shape , It has a B engine and a high compression head , almost bald tires , hydraulic brakes plumbed with copper lines. I got it running but it scared me badly at about 25 mph with the death wobble. I’m hoping I can attribute that to the tires. Anyway I thought I’d try to help him as he needs money so I offered 300 bucks for the engine/trans combo and put it in the A and I’d take the frame to my place and advertise it and sell it for him. But again he thinks A ZEPHYR transmission is the same as Gold. It’ll Probably sit there for another 35 years as he has no intention to use it. Long story , thanks everyone. I appreciate your opinions.
Well, you must not have read all the replies, I think you'd be taking advantage of him for 300 for engine/adapter/trans. 300 for a new longblock, I'd think isn't a bad deal, what's a gasket set, cam lube cost? Seems like a good project for a weekend, what else you going to do in these times?
Does the transmission look like this? Bud Bryan's '29 hiboy from March 1971 issue of Rod and Custom. Notice it is not a top loader like the '39 Ford.
