I thought I had this figured out but now I'm not so sure. I've got a 292 chevy that I'm going to run with a th350.

Well I was planning on running a TCI converter with a stock 292 flexplate, both of which I still need to buy. In doing some dimension checking prior to laying out the cash, I'm now not so sure they'll match up.

The converter (10") is a dual pattern with like 9 7/8" and 9 3/8" locations and the converter mounts in the flexplate are like 11 1/2".

Can I drill the 292 flexplate as needed or should I use a sbc flexplate or ???

I'm obviously missing something here but what is it?

Is the 292 externally balanced like a 400?

    Nope...if I'm not mistaken it's interally balanced.

    listing for 350 is pioneer fra-100, 292 w/ th350 calls for a fra-152 (w/o weight).
292 w/ th400 takes a fra-153, also no weight. Oreilly stocks them both, maybe others sell pioneer too.
I believe the fra-100 is just your standard dual pattern.

Cool and thank you. The Pioneer FRA-100 looks like the picture I posted though (one bolt pattern) and I can't find anything on the fra-152.

use the oreillyauto.com site, and make up a zip code if there isn't one near you. 1974 chevy c10 292. if i post a link, it won't work. looks like they are just single pattern versions neither with a small bolt circle for the converter you have.

looked on jegs also, and no mention of a small pattern for small chevy. only the 10.75 and 11.50"

where is the converter from? Is it 292 specific?

    http://www.jegs.com/i/TCI/890/242200/10002/-1?parentProductId=749012

this should use a 10.75" pattern according to their spec

yeah the converter I'm planning on using is a TCI street fighter...jegs pn 241000. Those dimensions were from a phone conversation. Makes me wonder if they actually measured the spacing or measured correctly.

Remember sometimes on websites to save time, they'll just use a generic pic for mulitple part numbers.... better to go into the store and have em pull both of them!! :)

i prob shouldn't say anything since i am don't know much bout automatics, but the flywheels interchange between sbc and 292's you just have to get large or small clutch to match flywheel. also don't forget there are 2 different size mounting bolt holes to crank flange they changed over around '74 or something so you will have to know what 292 you have before you order flex plate. good luck
