What's going to happen when you're 80 and you don't want to sell any of your stuff?

What's to be pissed about? They aren't yours, and he's not obligated to sell them. And his age has nothing to do with it. Old guys have kids, grand kids, friends that they may want to p*** things on to. Be happy for the guy, and find something important to be pissed about.

It happens all over the place. I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that "some day." Hell, I might even get all my projects done before the Reaper comes.

  6. Ha! I just had a thought. I wonder if that guy is sitting at home right now all pissed about "another damned kid trying to buy my stuff today". :D

I've never been able to understand why a person that has just found some old cars that are not for sale has to come on here and start a rant about it. It happens about once a week and after everyone posts exactly what they posted the last 1,473 times the subject has come up and the thread dies after about 3-4 pages. Get over it and get on with your life.

Take him some Girl scout cookies, tell him the girl scout took you for a ride and you bought way more than you could ever eat and you remembered the cool old guy with the trucks and figured it was a perfect excuse to go for a visit.
thats a start for getting him warmed up to ya? maybe? ;)

I've done this for a wwII vet almost 80 trying to get a 1944 jeep trailer and 35 ford wire wheels. its about time for another visit, maybe this time in my jeep to offer him a ride, since it's probably been 65 years since he drove one in germany..... he's got some really neat stories too and nobody to tell them to.
I see a nice trailer in my future... :)

Maybe when someone tells him "you'll never get all of these fixed before you die," he hears "you're going to die soon."

Selling them may be, to him, an acceptance of the reaper's visit. Just a thought as to a possible reason behind all of these threads about "that crazy old guy who won't sell me his ****."

I get somebody trying to buy my F150 all the time and it's 9 years old. I just tell them "if it were for sale, it would have a sign on it."

You may have went there with the true intention of buying something, but there have probably been several in the past years that went in to look around at the inventory, only to have parts disappear shortly afterwards. There never seems to be a shortage of s***bags that alienate these owners and make them defensive against anybody that makes an inquiry. You might try a different approach, ask him if there is anything he's looking for & maybe you can find it and do some horse trading with the guy ? Or invite him to see your projects so you can build up some trust, so he can see that your not just another thief. You obviously both have a common interest, even if he still won't sell anything he may share other valuable information or his experience.

I hate to see somebody coming on my place that looks like they want to buy something. I'd just as soon they keep on going down the road. From my experience anybody local enough to walk onto your place doesn't want to give you a fair price for anything, they expect you to go to a bunch of work so they can get it off your place and after they have it they piss and moan that this or that wasn't right. I'd just as soon sell something to somebody a state or two away. Then you find someone that really wants whatever you are selling and willing to shell out a fair price for it. Plus a guy three states away isn't going to drive back 1000 plus miles and steal **** off of whatever it is they wanted just because it's their opinion that you aren't ever going to do anything with it and it's just going to waste. At my age 70 isn't looking that far away and if I don't get around to something before I die you might get a chance to buy it at my estate auction. Hopefully there will be a bunch of guys come from other states with cash in there pockets.

Maybe you should have said : "another damned kid trying to STEAL my stuff today for next to nothing" which is usually the case when someone finds the Field of Dreams.

And I'd put money that if the old guy said, "OK, it's ALL yours for $$ whatever (cheap)" the whiners wouldn't have the cash anyhow.
Just a guess based on a lotta years of real life experience.
