Went out for a drive today, cold but not a bad day. Ended up on an old farm road I hadn't been on before. When I drove over the top of a ridge I spotted it. Does anyone listen to C.W. McCall? I pulled up in the yard and found the farmer. He was wearing an Elmer Fudd hat, hip boots and an old ratty coat. I asked about the truck. "It runs and I still use it, course it needs brakes". Well we walked down past the tractor shed, through a field of cow pies, and sitting right there in a pool of grease. Do I have your attention yet? The only thing missing from C.W.'s song was the dog named Frank. Anyway would you believe, a 1950 Chevy COE, with visor and spotlight, almost perfect rust free body, and a m***ive front bumper that saved the grill. The crowning touch to this ****py find was a very ugly manure spreader mounted on the back. I asked if it could be bought. "No, I still use it was the reply". Then I got creative. I asked if he wouldn't rather have a newer truck under the manure spreader. As a matter of fact he had an International with a bad hoist. You can figure out the rest of the story. As soon as it dries out, I'm on my way to get a truck, and a fairly good sized job. Good thing I have a friend with the equipment to handle this project. I will post pictures when this project gets started. Sometimes labor is worth more than cash. Something to think about.
Haven't you got that mounted and running yet? LOL! Actually I've found some more sleepers. Don't think I want one on my truck. I might get to thinkin I need a girlfriend next. Then, I know I couldn't afford the COE. If I was closer I'd help ya insulate and work on your truck. Two gimps should about equal half a man. Can't wait for things to dry out so I can go rescue the old girl from the indignities of hauling manure.
I don't think with TWO other guys we would make a 1/2 a man but half a man is better than none!!!! -Donn-
