I found one in a yard yesterday. It still has its front axle and wishbones as well as its rear and wishbones. Its not rotted and looks like a good base to build on.. Whats the going rate? Spike
I just traded it but my bare A frame (no front crossmember or rear.. I mean just a couple of sticks) was worth around $120-150 canadian. Dont know if its much different anywhere else though.
This one is complete with spings and everything. Guy wants 300 for it.. Too high? I've been known to make insulting offers before.. Spike
Bare frame $75.00 to $150.00 depending on condition and or how well you know the guy you're buying from
I bought 2 real nice bare frames in Western PA back in June, one was $35 and the other $50. They were not even on my plans as I was coming back from Ironhunters in KY but couldnt pass them up! A partially empty trailer was begging for company! Out here a nice bare one is $75-100 unless it is a dealer and then they are $150 and up. Complete front ends are $25-30 and you cant give away rears.
I'll take all the model A front ends you've got if they are only worth $25-30. Around here a bare complete A frame is worth about $100. They aren't hard to find, so start with a nice one thats not too bent or rusted. If that one is good, I'd pay about $150 at the most, and leave the rear end there. Dave
The guy is probably basing his price on the (magazine?) myth that "you can always sell the stock chassis to a restorer" line that doesn't really hold water BECAUSE THERE AREN"T ANY RESTORERS ANYMORE! And if there were they'd want the whole car, not just the chassis. If someone wanted it for a restored A it might be worth his asking price so make an offer only on the part(s) you actually want and offer to remove the parts you don't so he doesn't have to. I paid $100 for a bare frame here "in the city" a decade ago, so tey might be worth more than that to some people. It's got a serial number stamped on the left frame rail right behind the first body bolt hole. If it's clear and no one's using it for a hotrod already you can register it by that number and should get a bill of sale for that number too. In fact, if it comes with a title it's worth what he's asking just for the no-hassle registering it.
spike that frame isnt gonna amount to anything more than a pair of rails.. the rear is useless to a hot rodder, and the front suspension on the frame in question had brackets welded on the steering linkage to turn it into a farm wagon.. like I said yesterday i'd sell you my bare a frame for 150 later sawzall
I bought one yesterday for $100, came with 2 front axles w spindles and backing plates (worthless), 1 had the wishbone attached, 2 front springs, frame still had running cast board supports and cast front fender supports. paid him another $20 for a rusty 28 cowl.
Here in $o cal, i saw up to $250 asking prices for bent up shit. I set out to get something in the $75 - $150 range, and got a really nice one for $150. I regularly see complete (stock) frontends go for fitty bux or less... now I want another one, so if yer nearby PM me!
