I've got two '32 - '34 transmissions. one is rebuilt with '39 guts and never run, the other also has '39 guts and has been sitting in a garage for forty years bolted to the back of a B motor with a McDowell overhead. the insides look perfect. I have no idea what they're worth. I am using a t5 behind the B so I don't need either of these. any help would be great. thanks, michael
Those aren't as valuable as some think. I hauled around a stock 34 transmission for a couple of years to swap meets and couldn't get more than 50 bucks for it just a couple of months ago. It was original but still I don't think yours with 39 guts would sell for more than 100 each unless your area of the country likes them better than around here.
What??, Like Don,, I tried selling a 32 Ford transmission for several years and thought I hit a home run when I finally sold it for 85 bucks at Brad's swap meet last year. HRP
Ah two top loads ready to run? Don't sell them for 50$. The damn shifter tower is worth more than that. I see them painted ready to go for 400-600$ at swap meets. Maybe a old rusty junk one is worth 50$. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Just because you see people asking $400-$600 doesnt mean they are worth that much. I bet those transmissions did not sell. REAL value is whatever you can get. In this case $50-$85 are real prices. If I were King, 'whats it worth' posts would be deleted because its a stupid question. Whats a junkie old car worth if some old woman asks you to get it out of her yard for free? Whats it worth is you sell it for $1500? Whats it worth if your buyer gets $10,000 for it? The world is not like Walmart where every item has a fixed price. Its WORTH is ALWAYS the amount that the buyer is willing to give and the amount a seller is willing to take. (and you can get prices marked down at Walmart too)
Are they B cases or 18 cases? A good set of real '39 gears are worth atleast 100 apiece. Do they have the good "3 intermediate shift forks? Double detent shifter? The cases are kinda just junk unless they are B cases they are kinda valuable. If they have all the other good parts I would say 100 apiece but hard to say without knowing more. Pm me I could be a buyer
If you need a few shifter towers I can probably scrounge up a couple,,and remember asking and selling are to different animals. HRP
Stuff like this makes me laugh, a trans is not just a trans. Those probably had 78 case good gears and all the right parts. It's like the guy seeing a numbers matching '63 corvette go for 100k then thinks his '75 corvette with a truck 350 is worth 50k.
If you are correct about the gears being 1939 an they are in good condition my guess would be about $500 each with the real value being in the gears. Does rebuilt mean new bearings or new paint? How do the gears look? Are they 4 cyl or V8 cases? What are you using to determine the year of the cases and what are you using to determine the year of the gears? Charlie Stephens
A '39 trans is worth more than any others, except the pickup ones from the early '50's. A '37 or '38 is pretty good too. Stock '32 was straight cut gears with no synchros, even restorers don't want 'em! I have a few that I can't give away.
HaHaHa I just had a neighbor try to sell me a 79 Vette Auto and a 350 for the bargain price of 15k. I said I'd have to pass. Just bought a 39 trans for $300. Its super clean inside I thought the price was fair
Need to back up a bit. 32' trans won't accept the larger 39' gears. Are you sure it's not a 36' or later? The 39' gears threw me off. If its a stock 32'-34' than yes everyone is correct it isn't worth as much. 39's are worth a lot more. I wouldn't mind seeing some pics. I may be able to have a buyer. If its a later one with 39' gears and perfect 400-600$. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yuh huh. You can put later gears in the B case, so why not the 18 case as well? You need to****emble in a slightly different order, but it can be done. To the OP: You ned to confirm to us that those are really '39 guts and towers. We have seen way to many "experts" tell us they have desirable parts, and then later find they are run-of-the-mill. Post pics of the gears, towers, and the big forks with a tape measure inside the prongs.
