In my barn I have a 1980 SBC 350 block with 4 bolt mains Suffix TDR with heads. It is a rebuildable core...is it worth keeping, what kind of value (if any) would it have? Thanks

BTW: Not fishing..really don't know what they are worth.

  2. Is it complete ? Intake , manifolds , brackets , etc ?

    a long block ?

    rebuildable ?

    rebuildable how ?

If it’s just a long block in good shape and you find someone with a need right now for one , $200 bucks maybe , if it’s required asap .up here .

complete , running 350, 305 smog motors sell for for 700-1200 bucks depending on mileage , options , etc .

They are all over the place, but in the range as Vandenplas stated here in California, less to free for a good scrounger. I try to find LS swap takeouts for cheap, but others use the same M.O. . City vs rural makes a difference also.

I picked up a complete 350 from a 99 Suburban for $40. Rings, bearings and a cam change and put it in my truck.
The core for the last one before that I paid 100.

  7. as I said if it needed you can get some money for it .

I just picked up completely by chance at one of my customers warehouses one of the elusive 2 barrel carb 327 “ corvette engines “:D

I went to do a battery inspection on all there battery powered forklifts and this poor lonely long block was sitting on a skid on the floor of the battery room .

I asked the guys in charge and they all said it was there when they moved into the building and if I wanted it I could take it .

it’s now sitting in the racking at my shop , no clue what , if anything I’m gonna do with it . But free I’ll take it . Probably pull the pan intake and heads and see if it’s junk or what and go from there .

But I’m busy and also lazy , so it might just sit for a while :D

  8. Same here. I picked up a standard bore 283 from a friend cleaning up his shop. $0
Had a customer bring me 2 complete but locked up 331 hemis for 300 each.
But back to the subject, a 70s-80s 350 core is worth more than scrap. If it’s not in the way, I’d pretend to forget about it until an opportunity to use it pops up or a friend needs one. I just gave a running complete 350 to a friend that helps me a lot.
The LS guys have kinda helped keep the SBC prices down.

I got a 4 bolt 350 bare block with caps for free when I cleaned out the garage for the family of a guy who got sent to the pen. (he was my wifes sisters husbands brothers wifes brother, so that's why they called me) It had been hot tanked, bored, honed, and had a new oil pump. I advertised it on CL on on off for about 2 years, trying to get $200-300 for it. I figured the fresh machine work was worth something. Finally, a guy offered me $175. It was the first and only offer I had in 2 years, so I took it.

I just bought one over in Alabama, fresh .030 over bore, cam bushings installed & notched for 400 rotating assy gave $450 for it.
If it is a one piece rear seal block can't give it away.
I tore down 7 350s looking for a buildable block. The customer brought them to me & he paid me more to beat them damn rusty engines apart than the prepped block cost!

  12. Won't be much longer and they'll be extinct. I used to go to the junkyard and buy a running 350 for a couple hundred bucks. Now there aren't any in the junkyard. But it's an easy $200 here.

  13. Last I checked a few of the remanufactured engine company charged/valued cores at $400.00.
Will they buy one for that? No.
Will they charge you $400.00 if you don't have a core? Yes.
So. I'd say that's the top end.
