The coolest ones come from Canada and have "Pontiac" lettered on 'em!!

I also kinda like the "dented top" 327 covers from the 60s...

Finned aluminum Cal Customs, with one piece chrome wing bolts. My 55 has a set on it's 283. They've been on that engine, (along with a matching finned Cal Custom air cleaner), since about 1969.:D I think someone is repopping them now.

If you are looking for something you can buy new, the Moon finned ones are nice but expensive, I think a set of chrome plated corvette look great.

Ditto Cal Custom covers win hands down. The Eldebrocks are nice, but they have the damn logo on them, which loses major points, IMO.

By the way, who's doing Cal Custom knockoffs?? If they're quality, it'd beat searching Ebay.

I saw some listed on a speed equipment company's web site, but I can't remember what the company was? They were not listed as Cal Customs but looked just like them. I was looking for a Cal Custom style finned air cleaner at the time (which I did find at Hot Rod and Custom Supply in Florida), so I didn't note where I saw them.:( If I run across the valve covers again, I'll post the web adress where they can be found.:)

My favorites are the Cal Custom style covers, then the Corvette covers. In my part of the world there were a lot of sbcs with Vette covers simply because they were becoming junk yard "u pick it parts" and were a lot cheaper than anything else. Don't know for sure but I'd guess you could still find some for less than Cal Custom repops.

In addition to those finned covers, they were also made by A/FX and RPM. They are finned aluminum covers with those words in the center like Edelbrock, Weiand, or whatever else.

I'm trying to find a set of the old Weiands that say "say why and" on them. Let me know if you know of any.

I think the cal custom ones for sure, got me a pair on the way right now. Apparently the offenhauser ones are the best quality.

i kind of like the Edelbrock ones with the logo or the offenhauser they are kool too.....Marq

  24. no one is doing them, the closest is vintage speed but his has 7 fins, i don't like the way the fins stop by the bolt holes (thats why cal custom had 6 fins). that brings me to the question, does anyone on the hamb do casting (investment or die) i have blueprints and a foam cnc model. last place i went to wanted 30k just to start with a 1000 first articles. if there's a market and i could get them done for a fair price, i would sell them (and i hope i wouldn't get sued).

  26. These are Cal Customs are they not?

I found them a few years back and gave them to my friend who was collecting parts for his roadster. (Not that I'm so nice, we swap stuff back and forth - I got his 5 1/2" wide 14" slot mags on the front of my 32 and now he wishes he had them back.)
Nice part was the angled Offy breathers.

He gets off on a tangent sometimes and found a pair of new Edelbrock rocker covers, the square and tall ones with the removable lid up top.
Nice part about them is they are tall enough for the roller rockers without resorting to a thick gasket although the rockers/gaskets sealed everything off quite well.

One cool one about the Edelbrocks is that they make the small block look like a big block at a glance.

I'm thinking as well a guy could knock out a new top plate for the finned lid (no-name) top.
I thought we could get some stuff and engrave them with "Belchfire V8" or some such.

I did tell him the covers in the pic were rare and the breathers were hard to find so he'd better hang on to them.

Maybe I'll have some trading stock today.
Yesterday we went to a local wrecking yard that closed in 1993 and is open temporarily. (It'll be a Pic A Part in 6 months or so.)
I found one 5 1/2 x 14" slot mag and I know the other one is somewhere in there.
Didn't see it yesterday after spending three hours wandering the place and covering the entire 7 acres.
At least 7 acres is what they say it is, looked more like 20 acres to me and that's a reasonable estimate.

Corvette covers are hard to beat in my opinion...they are relatively cheap and available, and look great polished or chromed.

Bonus points if you can turn up a pair of the Fuelie 9 fin covers...they're not exactly readily available. Speaking of rare and cool...I really like these staggered bolt (fit pre-59 heads) Weiands. Fenton and Hildebrandt made similar covers with their name on them.
