  1. Was that a pic of the the engine in the '40 ya' sold earlier this year?

I don't think I ever saw that car. From what I understand, it was a good one!!!

I like those fake Ford Flathead covers some doofuss was making a few years back to make your 350 look like a Flattie...now if he'd just come back with a design to make a HEMI look like a Pinto, he'd sell a million....

  3. Well I'm not the doofus that made them - he died a few years ago owing me some money for stuff he'd bought from me. So I acquired all the tooling and inventory. If you need a pair let me know:rolleyes:

    Hey Dennis,
Whats the best way to get hold of you, I sent a pm the other day better by email ?

    Paul.

  6. Krooser - no problem. They aren't really my cup of tea either, but I have them and if someone wants them they're here. The alternative was watching them go to the smelter. I've often thought of making a fancy cover to replace the flathead one - something like the old Induction Engineering ones. Hey, there's a SBC valve cover no one posted a picture of (actually there were two or three different ones).

    55olds88 - sent you a PM.

I like these from moon as far as new ones go. They are pricey but the quality is there.

Those look very much like the 7 fin so-cal ones.So-cal ones have the name cast inside them as original.Even if you made those i don't think so-cal could do a lot unless you put their name on them.So-cal ones come rough with cast flashing the works as per original they are also not polished just cast finish. Most of the racing guys would have used them as is becuase heat dissipates off a cast surface quicker than a polished area.I was chatting to some racing guy a few years back and he said they used to grit blast them for even more surface area.Anyway mine are on the car as is with just a bit of satin polish i.e kitchen scourer and parafin.....thats the way i like em and if i change my mind i can always polish them up but can't go back once i have polished them...........Marq

  12. Man this one is getting long. :D
I looked at a set of the So Cal CC repop covers at Back to the 50's. Guy said they were brand new. They were rough as hell. We have the Cal Custom on the big block in my dads boat. I polished these when I was a kid and they polished quite easily.
The new ones I just saw would take forever - they were rough everywhere but the top of the fin and they were $200. That makes the polished Moon one not so far out of sight.

I love the Cal Custom covers - chromed - like Boones above are just awesome. The Moon are a close second.

I like to find odd Offy type stuff too I just hate the name being in there.

yup they are a bit rough but a good polisher would have those done in no time, just if you do em at home on a tiny wheel just gonna take an age.Yup they are expensive too but they are the real deal so who cares lol. They look great on though ..............Marq

  16. Off all of 'em made I have to go with the Cal Customs. I like the Offies but the Cal Custom's had style.
I had a set of knockoffs a couple of years back. I don't know who made 'em I found 'em in an Auto Shack (now autozone).
I have a set of original Cal Custom Tall covers that I can't use because they won't clear my valve train. I really like the look of 'em.

After that I think I like the Chevy Script rockers and like the hackster the dented 327 covers. Those are strictly bussiness if you ask me.

marq - finned cal custom or the early vette covers. got mine on ebay - no damage at all for $50 - cant remember how much they cost to ship now, too long ago. When i bought them they come with a satin finish but as you know theyre polished now..easy to get them back to satin finish just get them bead blasted

  18. i don't like the way the 7 fin models stop/start by the bolt holes (the same as vintage speed). i just wonder why a big company takes the time to make a 7 fin cover and not the tried and true 6 fin.

  19. This thread won't die! While I won't nominate 'em for coolness, they are unique. How 'bout fabricated from diamond plate? Goes nicely with a T-bucket that has a portable welding system on the back with a lot of diamond plate.

P.S. Also saw a set of "Erson" embossed valve covers from the Sig Erson Cams heydays. Again, cool? Rare or unique, yeah!

I like the LT1 covers shown above on a small block quite a bit, but I fell for the repro Offenhausers. About $175 if I remember correctly, could be wrong, as they were a Xmas present.
They are cast aluminum with a thick mounting flange. I've got them on my 56 Chevy.
