Like the title says, I want to know all the ways you guys know to identify the 1947-1953 Chevy trucks. I've always had a hard time telling them apart... Especially if it's been sitting in a field and has had some of its parts removed. Exterior and interior differences amongst the years... I didn't include 1954, because the bullnose is obvious. If you want to expand this thread to include the 1947-1953 GMC trucks, that's OK too... Post pics if you want to make it easier. Yes, I did a search...
As I remember, '51 was the year they went with pushbutton outside door handles, as opposed to the '47-'50 handle that pulled down to open the door. '51 was also the first year for vent windows. Of course, by now an early truck could have late doors on it......also, the gas tank went behind the seat starting in '49.
You can get lost here for awhile. Details are listed in great detail at Tim Lederman's site ('47 2nd Series thru '55 1st Series). http://www.1954advance-design.com/A-D_factoids/index.html BTW, The Brazilians call the '54-'55 1st Series "Boca de Bagre" (Catfish mouth)
I can't tell you all of the differences but here are some:Correct me if I'm wrong. 1. 1947&48 have a 3-point cab mount. The rear cab mount is in the center. 2. 1947 and 48 were floor shifts. There's no recess in the dash for the column shift rod. 3. 1947-49 had a vent on the drivers kick panel and also on the top of the cowl. 4. 1947-1950 had one piece door glass and pull down door handles. 5. 1951 doors are unique. They were the last year for pull down handles but the first year for wing windows. 6. 1952-53 had push button door handles. 7. There were differences with the inside door moulding (rubber) The earlier trucks had the rubber heal on by a metal strip and screws. 1950-up the rubber was wider and slid into a channel around the door opening. 8. 1954-s had flat top bed rails and a reveal in the bed sides. 9. curved corner windows were a custom cab option every year I think. Hope this helps. Sam
I believe the "Deluxe Cab" option was available all years and consisted of corner glass, stainless window trim, and a heater that would pull air from the outside. I think. Rich
Oh yeah, Larry, here's a good build thread..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=297685&highlight=truck
while at a gas station in the S F Valley a young boy about 8yr old black kid came over &asked 'what year my p/u was'' i said a 47 he then started to point out all the parts that was not 47....the doors have vent windows ect ect........as his dad had a real 47............lol
gmc used philips head screws, chevy used clutch head screws. gmc oil pressure gauges go to 60 psi, chevy oil pressure gauges go to 30 psi. [info in case you find a bare cab]
