Being color blind probably has it's benefits as it pertains to this discussion...

My Pop painted all his wheels red. The cars always had full disks but the lip at the tire always got the red paint treatment from a quart can of Western Auto red. I got a '51 Plymouth as my first car and before I knew it he gave it the "wheel treatment". He's been gone several years now but I just put red wheels on my deuce roadster. He would have loved it.

I think that they being overused but not entirely by hot rods and customs. It seems that tey are getting a bad name because people are putting them on minitrucks and faux hotrods. It is also used by every entry level hotrodder because that is what is fed to them in Ol' Skool Rods, and it is causing traditionalists to get a bit sick of it. When you see a black car that has red wheels and it has been done correctly and look period correct there is no problem. I think when the authenticity is there people notice the over all look. But when you have a car with no craftsmanship or love put into it and you throw some red steelies on it people will see right threw that. What those people should know is that us Hot Rodding is not a fad. It is not about trends, it's about the sincerity that you have for your ride. Make sure if you put red steelies on your rod or custom, it's because you want them there and not because is "Ol' Skool".

Then why'd you even ask in the first place? Stop trying to "fit in" and make a decision.

  9. I painted mine purple to match the firewall. I get asked why not red? They look good that way but I didn't want to look like everyone else. Paint them what ever color you want.

I LOVE red rims! Sometimes I'll put on a feathery boa, stilletto's, and fish net stockings in anticipation of my lover showing up and giving me another soon..................

Red is a nice colour. I like it, but i allso know that some colourblinds will go nuts with it 'cause they think it's green.
