I believe these are simply an after market hub cap sold at many auto parts stores in the mid to late "50's. I actually had some on my 1949 ford and bought them at Arrow Automotive in KC, Mo in about 1957.
I think most of those were made by Hollywood Accessories or Cal Custom. They were real popular in the late 50's early 60's. The stock 57 Fury cones only came in 14 inch as far as I can remember and had the "pie crust" around the edge. Original 57 Plymouth hubcaps only came in 14". They soon made aftermarket copies in 14s and 15s with the painted boxes at the edge like the originals. The ones in the picture look like "CAR DEALER SPECIALS" in the bottom left. The angle at the edge was not as steep and it was completely polished unlike the 57 Plymouth's in the box above it. Used car dealers would keep these in stock to up grade the poverty cap cars with full wheel covers. This is a 1961 Honest Charlie catalog.
Id see them all the time on all kinda cars when I was a kid in the early 60s. They were real popular around Sacramento.
Does anyone know who has or where i can get a set of these in 15". i know they are hard to find but i need them to finish my hot rod resto project.
Sure wish someone would repop these. Not the gennie '57 plymouth 14" but the aftermarket 15" without the pie-crust edges.
Here are the "car dealer specials" on one of my favorite "home town" hot rods. Do these look bitchen or what??
Bought a full set still in the Cal Custom Boxes not to long a go at an Indiania Swap Meet.Got a pair of the Ply one on the shelf and they are 14 inch. They were on the 32 roadster in the Beach Party movie
