Looking online just now I seen this video of a Flathead with what looks like two canisters one going to each head. I can't post video from Facebook on the H.AM.B. so here's a screen grab.
If they where running a tank instead of a radiator wouldn’t they need expansion tanks? Or maybe they were using them for more capacity.
It's been said that the only thing Flatheads were good for was boiling water so maybe he put coffee in them with a pet **** in the bottom to fill your cup.
Whatever they are, the compe***ion must have been leafing through the rule book. They may be the highest point in the cooling system. Burp..
Model Ts didn't have pumps. Thermosyphon cooling. The way the water goes in the bottom and out the top, might be a version. But it may have pumps, I just can't see them or a belt in the photos.

@mgtstumpy I didn't want to spoil the fun already but after I found the page I was on I went back and read some of the comments and they are called "Swirl Pots".
That rubber elbow coming off the head looks like a weak point in the system. Would be better if a 90 degree alum elbow was welded to the water inlet on the head and then joined to the water pipe by a small piece of rubber hose
I was just scrolling down to the bottom of the thread to suggest swirl pots, but you figured it out already.
If you read the section "Bill Pollack on driving the Baldwin special" It says they cut down the impeller on the water pump, I ***ume he means the fan, the water circulated naturally. Hot water up, cold water down. http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/BaldwinSpecial3.html
Back up for any more info. on these. It looks like there was an article on the Baldwin Special in the Jan. '52 issue of MOTORSPORT magazine, unfortunately I have Dec.'51 and Feb. '52.
I guess I'd have to ask the guys on the Australian Flathead FB page. I was wondering if they would work well on the street or just for compe***ion? They would look cool on an Hot Rod with no hood at the local car show or in the parade.
