Alright, so you know how some trucks have those wooden things on either side of the bed? They block wind I guess. Who knows? Here is a picture, please help out. I don't mean the bed of the truck either.

im sure its a regional thing... we call em side boards. ('cept mine aint boards at all)

  9. Actual name is "Stake Sides", that is why the pockets in the beds are called "Stake Pockets"

I just call them Farmer specials, cause all the farmers around here have them in one form or another.

Hard to believe someone doesn't know what racks are. I've never had a pickup without a set, they're handy, provided you use a pickup for what it was designed for...

I always called them a stake bed. Always known them as that. Hell I think my truck had stakes in them at one time which is no surprise since it is a native Texas farm truck.

    Why not?

Not everybody lives a**** the farmers and you just don't see those things on trucks in the city or suburbs much.

  22. what they are is a rare form of turbulence enhancers.. what they are for is one can put seeds in the bed drive at approximately 12mph so they will be evenly dispersed on either side of the road.. that's how all those sun flowers grow on the sides of the roads.. the farmers that chew them are forgetful and leave their seeds in the back of the truck and they get ****tered on either sides of the road..

In So-cal we call 'em "stake sides". Keeps the vagrants from jumping in as you're driving by.

I have been in the vehicle repair business since 1979.i know,it's not a long span of time in a real historical sense.I have been observant enough to note that there are several cl***es of individuals that use their vehicles in the same fashion.

These wonderful cutomers are grain farmers, loggers, and miners.Mind you there may be more that I am missing. Some may even fall under one or more of the previous headings as well.

All of these aforementioned customers employ devices on their vehicles such as the ones posted in the original post.Although there not many trucks that look as good as that one once these folks get done using them!

Here is where it gets down to where the rubber meets the (so to speak):

Here is the rule all of these folks use..... No matter the posted rated capacity of the vehicle, you can haul all you want if #1) if the tires hold air and #2) the load does not come out of the truck.

Here is where those beautiful racks come into play... they help the person using the truck keep what ever load they are carrying IN the truck!

You're right. How ever it should be common sense if you know anything about a truck to begin with.

This thread is funny! I do like stake sides though... especially helpfull if your truck is zeed and the bed floor is higher than normal...

They're also good to keep mud off your cargo... I think this is a hotrodjen pic...
