Event Coverage What are YOU doing to get ready for the 2015 Meltdown Drags?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Okiedoker, Sep 30, 2014.

  1. Hopefully my health issues don't hold me back because I really want to bring the Henry J. Speaking of which the plan is a new chassis and switching over to big block power.

  2. The only thing your gonna see in that mirror is your own silly little pouting face, wondering why you ever even thought about tangling with our cranky ole lady. The next thing you'll see is X Racer jerking your Hemi membership card for getting smacked by a small block Chevy. He will probably take you back to the stands to watch the grown up's play like he did last year, and share a Lunchable and some juice packets with you.

  4. shaking dog.gif Kip, the dog is new to this block and wanted to get in the mix, he just had his ass pointed in the wrong direction when he started talking out of it, so I had to do a little tutoring. :)

  6. Kip, the North is not immune to this in fighting either, Scott & Jiffy have been going at each other since they pulled out of Byron Sunday night, and your rip about Scott "porting himself back into the 14's has still got me & Marc giggling and snorting like mischievous 3rd graders!

  7. Scott, stop kicking dead 289 horseys, and sending cast iron back to its natural state with your grinder, and get on that new secret weapon!

  14. From what I can tell the original SBC engineers were obsessed with the HEMI. Everything on a Chevy has an underlying hemi envy :) take the ignition for example

Took the slant 6 and t-flite out and put a 300 Ford 6 and Powerglide in the dragster this summer. Made 7 runs late in the season. It will be ready to rock and roll at the Meltdown. It'd be nice of the flathead Model A altered next to me would go to the Meltdown.

    Ric:
I have to admit, that burn about the porting was just about the finest chirping I have ever been the recipient of.
The Big Man can throw some verbal javelins!;) lol!

    Kip,
I think you're gonna be diggin' the finished product of this porting job.
If we can fit both our portly asses in my little car without snapping the damn thing in half,I'll take you into town to Sam's some night next year and show you how much bit the little Ford is gonna have to go along with its bark!:)

Ya might have to add a "Gurney bump" to your passenger side roof though.

Couldn't you have left out that whole first part and gone straight to the part about needing an extra tenth??? :( Anyway, a little more background...the only car I had ever made a pass in before the Spectra Chevelle was my '74 Olds Omega 4 door with 350/350 & 273 gears! Best pass ever was 16.01 (painfully close to the 15's!) I knew if I broke the Chevelle or even worse, crashed it, it would be my ass! And I didn't have the money to fix anything! Like Ric said, he convinced them to let me make a pass and he gave me a quick rundown on the car's specifics and we headed out onto the track. As I recall, I didn't even do a burnout, just a couple of dry hops. Needless to say, it behaved a little different than my Oldsmobile! When I mashed the thottle the car jumped up and forward and it sounded like the rpm's instantly jumped to 10 grand or so, even on mufflers! (It was probably about half that) So, not wanting to hurt anything I instantly put it in 2nd gear, not straight to 3rd. Dick Gazan had said to only run it through 1st & 2nd, and since I had already jumped the gun from 1st to 2nd, before Ric could stop me, I slid it into 3rd and putted to the finish line. I'm pretty sure it was quite a bit slower than a 13 second pass, I woulda been kinda proud of that!

I've already done the one thing I needed to do to get ready for the 2015 Meltdown. I made my motel reservation in Rochelle for next year!

  23. Lucky the tech line at Speedway opens before Ric gets up. They did a quick test and suggested a peep mirror for anything 100 yards away. :)

I remember that shot, one of Meltdown crew took a pic of me doing a dry hop in his side view mirror while they were pushing another broke dick Hemi off the track, and sweeping up the crumbs. Oh, and remember, objects in mirror are closer than they appear. Ya know patch, I been thinking, why go through all the expense of a 392 build, when you can get the same performance out of a 318 Poly for a fraction of the $$$. They are very plentiful at the scrap metal yard, matter of fact, they use em as pump engines at the Andy Gump doo doo recycling plant, so you could get a nice core for cheaps. All you'd need is an O'REILLY rebuild and you'd be set. You could use all the money you save for gas when you tow to the Meltdown Drags and enter the car show. ;)

  25. The way I see it Ric, you are just jealous of the size of my large chamber. :D You Chevy guys are like Presbyterians, you will try to convert me one piece at a time - probably with a BBC rod to start with o_O

Dang now I have to find a way to shave off 100 lbs or so to make up for the roll bar. I didn't realize how heavy everything was. I was thinking about gutting the doors and glass and putting some Lexan in.

  27. I'm gonna try and NOT scatter my po lil bitty mouse motor...suckr has 6 seasons on it with MANY 7500 rpm launch/shifts...not to mention a bazillion street miles on it....( I drive it harder on the street than I do on the track...)

Working on figuring out why the Rude Stewed slowed down nearly a second from our best ET at Byron to our home track in Brainerd.

  29. AH.., BUSTED ME!
Check out Pro Glass for your lexan, that's the next thing on our diet plan too.

  30. PS. Dog Scratch, I hope you stick to the plan, It'd be nice to see & hear a zesty 392 without a huffer on it
for once. The one in my brothers Willys is blown, but its 9.0:1, 1 to 1 on a Dyers 6-71, and has a .550 lift Isky flat tappet, and it is one of the best sounding ones I've heard. Its got a great rump, rump to it, instead of the usual, blub, buda blub song you usually hear. The car hauls the mail too, its crazy what a descent 6-71 will do to a basically mild 392.
